I hope not, I think that 14.95 is a pretty good price for this effect, but 20.00 is a bit much.

You are very welcome HDMike. I also agree the price is right as is. I love this but $20.00 might seem a bit much.

I just took a flyer on this effect based in part on the positive comments in this thread. Thanks, guys!

Great SDMoore, like any piece of good card magic, practice until you develop a smooth handling and this effect is a killer. Tried this on my wife who is my best critic and she never saw the end coming. Great reaction, I will practice just a bit more before I take it public.

Okay, I couldn't resist this for some reason and took the plunge. It was about what I was expecting in terms of method. I have what I need to perform the trick so I won't need to wait.
I'm actually glad I bought it for the handling that Rick provides. I kinda knew what was going on but the displays of the cards front and back was where the money was going to be made in my opinion. Rick thought through the handling and the moves are motivated by the patter while you truly get a clean display of both the front and back of each card. The small edition of some common magicians gimmicking material makes this slight free and easy peasy. I believe the blank card ending is going to be powerful. I am going to make this up and find out.

Seems like the Penguin site will quite often list a cool box effect as sold out but then still continue to sell them. I've never understood this but assumed it had something to do with how their website is set up.

Looks like its still available. I've had a chance to show this now several times. The reactions you see in the trailer are very very accurate. The funniest thing that happened was a guy thought it was one of two three things. 1 . The ink was the kind in friction pens and the heat caused the vanish. 2). There was a plastic sleeve over the blank card and I somehow pulled it off. And finally the girl who helped me was a plant. For something so simple this is a real reaction getter. Ricks handling is what makes this effect and as always he covers it all.

The great thing about this effect is they never suspect what is happening and the end result with the blank card is awesome. I like the patter that Eric suggested with having them choose a card then tell them to watch you remove it in slow motion. Then vanish the card based on which card they chose.

Mike I agree the ending is awesome. It really is fun watching them as they open their hands and the blank card is there! To me that is a great moment.

I like to use a card with just one side blank. This way when you place the cards in the spectator's hands you can spread them a little to make it more convincing that you gave them two normal cards.

I like this simple effect quite a bit. It's one of those things that seems to get a better reaction than you would expect.
I perform it almost exactly as Gumbini described above with one small exception. I remove one card from their hand BEFORE I ask them to name one of the cards. I like to use an ace/king blackjack hand, just feel like it gives some added meaning for using only 2 cards and it fits my storyline. Yesterday I was in the grocery store getting a few things and I happened to see a thin plastic binder like one would use to put a report or papers in. It was made of a clear, semi-transparent plastic. I cut out a piece the same size as a playing card. It feels just like a card when held between the hands. The finish even feels like a card. It's probably the thickness of 2 cards but who would ever notice. I know I can't tell it isn't a card even when I'm trying to. I haven't tried it out yet so I'm not sure if this will add anything to the effect, or perhaps even detract from it, but for the less than a buck that it cost I thought it was worth giving it whirl. |

Got this as well, and like it. LOVE the transparent card idea, and expect to give that a whirl...

Did it already sell out before midnight or is this just a sales pitch on the Tuxedo bird?

For those that have this, is it truly easy, or easy as in "all you need is a DL followed by a Mercury fold while holding a pinky break" like so many effects touted as easy? An easy trick loving hobbyist thanks you in advance.

Just purchased and like it a lot. Think I may use a DB'er instead of the blank. When they open their hands they will think all went wrong, when they turn it over....Bamm!! The face is a back! Also could use a blank faced card instead of a double blank. Gonna play with a few different setups. As far as handling...if you can't do these simple moves then you may want to go back to card magic 101.

Honestly, I don't think using a DB'er would be nearly as strong. First, when they separate their hands I think there should be an immediately noticeable change. You might get some wise guy who sees the card, rolls his eyes and then just tosses it back at you and doesn't bother turning it over.
Secondly, I agree with Rick that using a double blank is more amazing because I think if they see a back more people are going to be inclined to believe you were just hiding that card amongst the other 2 which could lead them to the method. Thirdly, having another back show up really doesn't make sense within the context of the current routine of making the other card "disappear". I think it would more likely create confusion rather than amazement. Fourthly, you would be exposing to people an existing utility gimmick, although I personally don't care so much about that but I mention it because I know many others do. However, were you to explain to me your reasoning behind the routine you have in mind and I may decide you are totally right and completely agree with you (and then steal it and do it that way myself.). |
