Who do you get to ship large illusions? What about packing?

Hi

I can only comment from an international point of view - I am in the UK and have taken delivery of four large illusions from the USA over the past few years. All worked out fine and transportation prices were broadly aligned.

For the two most recent, Bill Schmeelk of Wellington Enterprises used DB Schenker (www.DBSchenkerusa.com) to ship my Origami two years ago; Dan Wolfe of Smokey Mountain Magic most recently used AIT (http://fastrak.aitworldwide.com/) for an illusion earlier this year.

On packing, it depends to some degree on the illusion. Bill arranged for custom-built ATA cases for shipping, which added to the cost but really does work better for an Origami as it cannot break down as easily as other illusions. Dan's illusions break down into smaller components and he wrapped everything in soft packing and then crated them in wooden crates, leaving me to get ATA cases built here.

Hope that helps

Thanks Allen, I hope to possibly hear from a couple of others. I'm thinking about selling an illusion.

I second John's comment. I have used uship plenty of times and had great results. It's like an eBay where shippers bid for your business.

I've shipped and received crated illusions, as well as Leslie rotating speaker systems, using an airport-to-airport service. Many of the commercial airlines have an air cargo service. This means that you deliver the item to the air freight depot (boxed, shrink-wrapped and attached to a pallet). It will be delivered to the closest airport where the recipient must pick it up from the freight terminal. They typically don't offer a door-to-door service.
