For anybody interested in WW2 military history, I highly recommend "The Phantom Army Of Alamein" by Rick Stroud. It's a fascinating account of how a group of artists, sculptors, theater set designers and film-makers were able to hoodwink Rommel in North Africa and help to turn the tide of the war. Contains lots of personal vignettes and includes vivid descriptions of some ingenious inventions by magician Jasper Maskelyne.

Another Jasper Maskelynne story of WWII and the "phantom army" in North Africa is THE WAR MAGICIAN".

Great details of Maskelynne's contributions to the war effort.

The Phantom Army is one fascinating story. It would make a great movie.

There'also a good documentary on it, either on Amazon or Netflix.
