Hey guys,
So here I bring you yet another review from the very wonderful and talented Ben Blau. You might remember Ben from releases such as Polygraph or HOTOAC, but most recently his critically acclaimed best seller "Asymptotes" Well now, Ben is back, with a routine using ESP cards. Yes, you heard that right, ESP cards! What I like about this is that you don't have to use ESP cards, you can use drawings, business cards, playing cards, you name it. So what is UNFAZED? Well, first of, let me say this: This is the best ESP card matching routine I have seen in recent years Why do I say that? Because the effect is totally fair, fooling, even to magicians, and spectator gets to make all the decisions. The end effect of course if that all the cards match up. There are multiple phases, and it is easy to do, which allows you to concentrate on your presentation. This is so good, that even Eugene Burger has picked this up, and started performing it in his own way. This is not out yet, but I urge you that if you are interested in this type of routine, contact Ben Blau, he will take care of you. I showed it to my wife last night, and even after all the fairness, she was totally dumbfounded. What I specifically like about this routine, not only is the presentation invoking, but the multiple layers of deception that is employed, even though you apparently do nothing, is what makes this routine kill. If this was on the Wizard product review, I think the guys would give it 100%, worker of the week, it is that good, and I am not plugging anything. That is how strongly I feel about this. Heck, even Sean Waters said this was the best ESP type routine he has ever seen, and that says a lot coming from someone who knows. Thanks guys Alex Alejandro

I've been fortunate to see Unfazed and it is mind boggling. Seems completely impossible. As with other Blau Bits O' Brilliance, it might be a tad "procedural" for some but in this instance the procedure is exceptionally well integrated into the plot.
I saw Eugene Burger's version as well and he managed to reduce the amount of procedure (and cut off about 4 minutes of performance time) without losing any impact. I look forward to seeing the fully edited final product. I love ESP matching routines and while this is almost more synchronicity oriented it hits all of the right notes for me. |

Ben was kind enough to share Unfazed with me. I'll be honest, at first I didn't like it... It felt too procedural and a little flat. But I've been working with it and adding my own touches that work for my style and it's growing on me. Mostly I want it to feel more flowing and "active" and I'm getting there. I'll say that the central method is really fantastic and not something I've ever come across before.
I'll also second Bill's comment that Eugene's twists were excellent and made me see something I hadn't before. |

Hi All,
I've had the pleasure of performing Unfazed for some time now and it never fails to get reactions of amazement from my volunteers (yes, you can perform this one-on-one or have several volunteers make the decisions). Everything looks aboveboard, yet the volunteers are left in wide-eyed disbelief. The "procedural" nature can be reduced (as mentioned by Bill and Robb), but I enjoy the relaxed pace as I believe it provides a level of comfort to the volunteer that everything you do is "fair and honest." Its conversational presentation also allows you to build a rapport with the volunteer, and he or she is very likely to be interested in "seeing more" if you are so inclined to perform another routine. This is one of my favorite routines to perform and I am certain you will enjoy performing it as well. Regards, Steve

This is an incredible routine. I love it. It's fun to practice and fun to perform. The objection of a procedure can easily be mitigated by a script that justifies the actions. I think this is a great counterbalance to Jazz Mentalism. That is a quick super-direct fantastic routine. This is a more of a relaxed, casual effect. Both have their places. Anyone with an interest in Zener work would be well served by this routine. It's beautiful.

I love Ben Blau's stuff. If anyone can point me in the direction of where to get it from I'd be grateful - failing that I'll wait until it's out properly.

Hi Ben,
Very nice. You could combine the two picture sets and perform Con-Centration as well... an added bonus! Regards, Steve

This has me intrigued. I don't own any of Bens material yet, but I've been very impressed with the performances that I've seen. Add me to the queue awaiting this. I'll be ordering as soon as it's available.
