Rip – Christopher Wiehl

Product description : This is a TnR effect with a self contained gimmick and a unique way of restoring the card. But there are some cons to it, mainly the way you tear up the card and the way you handle the « ripped » card. Let's go into the review !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $25 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !

What you get : You get a small and thin DVD cardboard sleeve with a DVD and the gimmick inside. DVD is well shot, easy to understand and teach you how to perform the routine, nothing bad to say about the DVD. Let's talk about the gimmick : it's well made but I think it could have been made a little bit better with stronger material in order to make it works more often because that's one of my concern. I had trouble to make the gimmick works so I had to take it apart and make it with stronger elements. It works like a dream now ! So a little bit of by the gimmick but it's very easy to make or modify the gimmick.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :
- As I said, I would have liked the gimmick to be made with stronger material, even if it would have been a little bit thicker.
- I find the handling of tearing the card is not convincing and not natural but it would work well for spectators, just magician thinking here !

THE PROS :
- The gimmick is already made so it's ready out of the box ! I think it's hand made so that's a big plus and I can't see it breaking. If you want to make it even more invisible, you can put some red and black pen over the crease when the gimmick is locked in position.
- You don't have to rip a card every time you perform the trick, that could be a negative because you can't show separate pieces. It's up to you to decide whether it's good or not, I particularly like it.
- It's very visual and can be done surrounded, which is a big plus when performing.
- It's an instant reset but need a change in order to give the card out for examination !
- The gimmick can be made in any back you want, not that hard but you will have to spend some time on it.

Overall rating : It's a good trick, if you like the demo, you won't be disappointed, especially for the price, 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, nothing hard, a force and maybe training a little bit with the gimmick, 2/5 stars.

Similar products : There are millions of TnR version out there, this is one of the good ones, quite like it !

HeyAlex
Thanks for the review!
The gimmick is handmade by myself so everything should be tip top.
One addition that was not put on the dvd (i don't think) is you can take an extra piece of card and put it inside the gimmick, so when you "tear" it, you can show that extra piece(s), then when you want to restore it, you can put them back in, wedging them in between.
Thank you again!
