Ha - yes I went through all of this with them
No I didn't leave them in a car on a hot day with the windows closed either I wrote them out I left them all across the table for at least four hours, that is each and every card seperate [none even over lapping at all] and left to 'dry' I practiced with them for a while no problems - maybe for a week or so Then left them in the box for a couple of weeks - until the day I was going to perform this effect - and then [after sitting in the box of over a week] - they came out like that |

Maybe there's something about using the number 43?

Same as you The Duster
No heat with mine either. Before getting a new set I would need to be certain it wouldn't happen again (otherwise what's the point). All I did was make them up, leave them to dry (i think overnight) and put them away. It's a 'card above' issue, not a bleed through. I did a tester for the bleed through before I marked them all up.

It seems that the only thing that could make the difference is the type of pen as all the decks of cards are equal to each other. Perhaps everyone that has had a problem should say what brand and type of pen they used to see if there is a correlation among you all. Seems most of us have had no problem marking the cards.

Sharpie black
And the manufacturer says it can happen Apparently at anytime If you leave the deck in the sun So it is a known issue For me it was not left in the sun but in the packet for a few weeks Seems they need a lot longer to dry? |

I didn't get alakazam version
But if it's he same cards Then yes it's a known issue I guess bull point pen would avoid it... but won't look good I will mark up my latest pack soon and maybe leave them out over a few days to dry Perhaps while I visit my mum for xmas |

Maybe this will solve your problems. I used a Sharpie Black "PAINT", Medium Point, Oil Based. Makes a nice broad stroke. I got mine at Staples but I'm sure most stationary store will carry it. I tested it on one of the Jokers and had no problem. I let it dry for about four hours. I've had my deck for several months now and no problems with bleed through or marking the adjacent card.
Hope this helps. |

I used a thicker marker than a normal sharpie, water based inks don't stick to cards like this in my experience. (I use this pen to mark up all my 'normal' cards with no issues writing on the backs.
No heat involved in mine. I guess it could be that the plasticky surface of the cards doesn't absorb the ink so they just bleed on to the face above? Emailed Alakazam a few days ago but nothing back. Currently unusable and unresolved. Ron, the issue isn't bleed through so wouldn't show up in tests (I tested too), it's from sitting in the box and bleeding on the card above so the face shows the value of the below card.

I love the original Trilogy, I like Cataclysm a lot, Brian Caswell has made some excellent routines.
Trilogy Extreme is hands down adorable, it's perfect. I play it strictly as a mind transfer from me to them. They become the hero's. Who wants to buy my old Trilogy No just kidding, it so good I'll keep it. I'm smiling every time I look at it, even knowing that from now on I will only perform the Extreme version. Thanks to Caswell and Alakazam we can now all be succesful mentalists. Jan |

Olympic Adam, That issue isn't a problem using the "paint". Mine are always in the box and have been for months. NO transfer of ink to the adjacent card. My deck is still clean as a whistle on all sides. So this should solve your issue.
If you want to PM me your cell phone number I can send you some pics of the cards. |

Thanks Ron, I'll look out for some of those pens. I do think it was an 'over time' thing with mine as the first few days they were fine. Your findings of the type of pen should be passed on maybe in the Alakazam user section.
I had a response from Alakazam which was just to buy a pack of refills. I may do at some point but I'm a bit more cautious now. Personally I perform a one deck version of the same style of effects (I think it's more similar to Cataclysm) which is really fantastic and has got me gigs, plus they can keep the cards at the end. I think there was a PDF released after Cataclysm that explained a version and it was quite like the one I was using. It's all personal preference as to which you want to use from these. This is definitely a good starting point (assuming your cards stay good!). Definitely get something new from all of these releases though.

Ron can you PM me
As I'm about to mark up a new deck I have parlour size And was going to use chisle sharpie but have been too scared to do them Mine are DD from Phoenix [not Alakazam] Again I repeat their customer service was excellent - it was far better than 'buy a pack of refills' A note for Vraagaard I don't think this effect is original to Caswell or Alakazam Unless I have it wrong The reason they are marketing the 'same' effect as Phoenix - is that the trick is old/not original - and so they are jsut selling you the props and giving you the method - to a trick they have NOT invented I could of course be wrong - but that's what I thought was the reason for the same effect being released Unless anyone has any gossip on who stole this off who, and why everyone is still so friendly about it [?] |

Was looking for a chisel tip 'paint' - Ron if you were able to put a photo online I'm sure many here would appreciate it in terms of the pen.
I used quite a thick marker which looks great (on the back...) but would be good to see how thick the medium paint is.

I tried a chisel point but the numbers were not consistent. If you varied the angle on the pen when writing it would look different than the next card. Keeping the same angle and rotation of the pen all the time is tough. I would put up an picture but have never done that. If someone can tell me the steps I can take them with my cell phone. The pen I suggested is a round nib. This should answer Dusters question. If not, let me know.
I will put that in the users section on Alakazam. |

Ron's description sounds like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based......1D0PABM2 Which fortunately I already have, but have never tried it on any type of playing cards. But this has inspired me to do a test and try it out. |

Hi. Is everyone satisfied that videoman's marker (see 2 posts up) does the job (no bleeding or gassing)?
Thanks. |

Also, does anyone know whether the additional videos available on the Alakazam site are viewable if you purchase the product from another vendor? Thanks in advance.

I'm the one that suggested this marker. I've had the deck for months now and there is NO bleed through or ghosting to the adjacent card.
There is a code but I cannot remember if it was sent to me by Alakazam or on a slip of paper. I believe other dealers that sell Alakazams products gives the codes with purchase, but you'd have to check on that with the dealer. |
