What are some tricks that you could purport to be the result of x-ray vision? (Please briefly describe the trick and mention a source if its not a separately marketed item)
Here's a couple: Color vision cube - identify the face up color of a die placed inside a lidded box crazy cube - identify the face up number on a die place inside of tube inside of second tube child's play - identify which hand is holding a coin card mirage - identify a selected card while its inside the deck using some specially printed plastic film. The card become printed on the film at the conclusion. |

Zen Master - Repeatedly identify the exact position of a named card in a cased deck.

Richet's Folly- see any hidden piece of information hidden inside a locked box. The participant locks the box and it is umgimmicked!

I wanted to duplicate the effect provided by boxes like the "Magnuson Devil's Device". The resulting method requires that a participant write something on a bit of card, then opens the box and finally, places it inside the box. Methodology fits somewhere in that tightly crafted sentence. (In other words, there are many a slip between a cup and a lip). |

Any spiker effect could be attributed to your ability to see through the cup and know where the spike/knife is.
Here's an off the wall idea. Derren Brown performed an effect where he apparently looked at a tray of buttons and immediately knew how many there were. You could claim to be able to see through the cover and count the objects beneath. Also any blindfold effect could be attributed to x ray vision. The problem for me would be having claimed such an ability, what would you do if the spect. then held out their hand and said tell what I'm holding, or how much money is in my wallet etc. etc. You would need to pre-empt the claim with some form of limitations/conditions etc.

Can't remember exact names, but I've seen a couple of book test presentations incorporating x-ray vision.

Steve Shufton's X-Ray (discern a reversed card in a cased deck).
In conjunction with my own eX-Ray addendum, of course.

Phase 1 - Spec chooses a card and replaces it back into the deck, then cuts the deck as many times as they want. Deck is then cased without the performer looking through the deck. Performer then names the position of the selection in the cased deck. Phase 2 - Spec mixes the deck. Once again, the deck is cased without the performer looking through the cards. Spectator names ANY card. Performer tells them the position of the card inside the cased deck. Phase 3 - Performer turns his back. Spectator selects a card and places it face-up in the middle of the deck. Performer turns around and writes a prediction. Then he names the position of the card in the deck. Cards are counted down arriving at the face up card, and the performer is correct. Prediction is opened and matches exactly, the card they placed face up in the middle. I'm not familiar with X-Ray, other than I know it has a possibility for failure. Not the case in this effect and the deck is ungimmicked and examinable, with no cr!@ps etc. @ Waters: Where can I find your effect Sean? Have you published it? |

Many moons ago I studied Ortiz' Zen Master but to my shame have to admit I'll need to rehearse it again. Thanks for pointing out, though.
(BTW, with eX-Ray there's no possible failure anymore, hence its name! )

Well, that's good to know Felix - sounds like a valuable addition you've made.
Perhaps you could let me know in private which of the two is a better option, without tipping the method. I do like Ortiz's routine as it's very straightforward and is a great closer. |

I like the idea of combining m****e reading and a blindfold, I feel it heightens the effect a great lot.
Also, I think Cassidy once wrote that you should use blindfolds with effects that would seem impossible even without one, so I keep that in mind when dealing with blindfolds.

I submit a post without reading the whole topic carefully *facepalm*
Identifying number of fingers held behind one's back, like Derren Brown in Trick of the Mind series, or Peter Turners similar themed effect from Jinxed could be attributed to x-ray vision I guess, but I find x-ray vision limiting as an ability, unless it's introduced as a part of a vast arsenal of powers. Cheers

Mildly off-topic, but Sean's "Richet's Folly" (described a few posts back) is quite good. It's my kind of thinking and is especially effective for those who do readings too.
I hope he never publishes it. Back on topic: Another effect that can be presented with an "x-ray" premise: Simon Aronson's "Shuffle-Bored." - The ability to determine how many cards a spectator has shuffled face-up into a deck, as well as naming how many are red, how many are black etc. |

I'm personally trying to avoid playing cards for the show I'm working on
some more: Kurotsuke: Identify which person selected the odd colored ball similar to this, a plot that I thought of is to have a variety of small objects and each person selects one and hides it in their fist, you then name who selected what object) I don't actually know if this is a trick that already exists, if it does, please tell me what its called. |

That being said and it being a TV thing, the method might not be applicable to everyday performing - I've no clue on the method, especially when the subject guesses Derren's number of fingers behind his back... If anyone can point me to a useful source -> PM Btw. I think it is the first season in which the effect is shown in multiple episodes, I haven't seen the entire series. I believe you can even find some of it on YouTube, if you can't buy it immediately. Peter's method is bold (for me at least) but it is a great opener being so direct and on the point.
