Greetings all,
I've read through some of the posts here and have found many great suggestions for self working effects. However, I'm very partial to the self worker/semi automatic effect that I can do with a borrowed deck, and where no set up is involved. I've collected numerous books that have this type of effect here and there, but have never found a resource devoted to the impromptu self worker. Any recommendations/thoughts of a book (or dvd, but I like books) that are either devoted to, or have the majority of effects meet this criteria? Look forward to hearing your thoughts, Peace |

I appreciate the link, and have read through it, however, while the resources named all have great effects, I don't know that any one of them is devoted to or has a majority of effects that are totally impromptu. What I'm looking for is a collection that meets the criteria of no set up, no stack, just hand me a deck after you've shuffled it till your heart's content, or don't hand it to me at all, just follow my instructions. Any thoughts?

There is a beautiful impromptu self-working trick I learned off YouTube using just 8 cards. I can describe the principle in PM if you want as I cannot find the link anymore. It can be done with a borrowed deck.
I would also suggest searching YT for the "Read 5 Minds At Once Trick", impromptu and can be done with a borrowed deck. Also Daryl's "Clock" trick in "Encyclopedia of Card Tricks" is a great self working trick. Thanks, Soumyajit

Great suggestions!
Macc, the Colombini series looks very interesting, I'm going to keep that on my radar for sure. Thanks Soumyajit, I will definately look into 5 minds effect. I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with the "clock," and you're right it is great. I'll PM you now to discuss the other effect you mentioned. Thanks |

There is a trick in which the magician chooses a card, places it to one side then the spectator deals as many cards they like into a pile then deal those into two- the suit and value of the top card of each of these combine to match the card chosen at the start. I don't know the name of the effect but it plays surprisingly big- you may be able to get a picture of the workings from that, if not feel free to pm me about it

A lot of so-called impromptu tricks require a deck with exactly 52 cards. The problem is, that's if someone hands you a deck you don't know if it has all 52 cards so many self working effects will fail. Just something to keep in mind when someone claims that a trick is impromptu, and something to keep in mind when you're working with an unknown deck.

My routine, "UNFAZED" is impromptu and nearly self-working. In this demo I'm using ESP cards, but it could just as easily be done with playing cards.
