I read through all the (multitude of ) posts here and elsewhere on this item from Neil Tobin before buying it, and must confess a little trepidation, there seemed to be a concern from many here that the item might prove strange to a UK spec.
I did,nt think so myself having finally got to see it but last night I thought I'd try a wee experiment. Having access to roughly 1000 potential victims at the club, all filtering thru the door slowly but surely between 6pm and 2am I tried things with the Xpert about 30 times (double doors so no-one saw anything twice) and had great success on all occasions, but each time I made the item very clearly shown - to see if anyone would say anything... honestly not one single person said a word about it nor asked to see it at the effect conclusion. I really think the key with this type of effect is to put a good amount of dramatic playacting between the item being used and the conclusion i.e make them forget they even saw it. A great addition to my armoury, and thanx to Neil and http://www.magictricks.co.uk where I bought it. Colin |

It's just great! (I just use it for bending pennies)
Sort of dramatic playacting is a good idea. ....or "set the stage" before you do this routine. I have never just walked up to someone and just done the bending, but have showed them a few other routines before I have done this. BTW; You can take it even further if you want, use a MXXXXXXC CXXN among the others and a PK. You'll scare their shoes off when they actually feel that the penny moves and bends in their closed hands. Maybe a little "too much", but still very interesting to watch their reactions!! Sven

Sven that's a great idea, tho people are already starting to give me strange looks and a wide berth when they pass me by as it is, got to be careful living in Edinburgh - a city with a long association of burning people
All the best Colin |

That's exactly what I do, using an "ordinary gimmicked" one.(wow ....this is getting complicated....where's my code book???) You are quite right, the spectactor wouldn't notice the x or y. Actually one have to do that, if the x (...or y!! ) is to be returned to the spectactor. Guess I didn't explain it properly. Sven Quote:

I consider myself having paid for the secret more than anything, but I do like the extra insurance and added confidence of having an identical ungimmicked item in the same pocket(2 compartments) should an observant spec get fussy I would prefer identical over similar, I also think the packaging on the gimmick can be used to strenthen the effect. I guess it's about putting yourself in a win/win situation, which I would always strive for.

Shrink;
I just feel like Tommy Cooper right now; (".....forgot what I was talking about" ) Were you refering to Xpert''s original gimmick, or my suggested add in? When I read your post again, I take it that it was the first? Sven

Blueboy, thanks so much for your kind words about the Xpert, and your quasi-scientific test to prove its acceptability to UK audiences. The boys at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk couldn't agree more (look them up, as many of the moderators there have been enthusiastic Xpert users for some time now).
Sven, your suggestion is very good, although nothing that wasn't already in the Xpert booklet (as it comes from Lee Earle's "Penny For Thought," from which the Xpert Out Of Body and Coin Bending routines are clearly derived). However, I should add that with proper participant selection and the power of suggestion, you can get equally powerful results. Please see Tim Trono's complete explanation on my website for details. Shrink, you're right: you could do any of the Xpert routines with a certain ungimmicked item. But for close-up, I don't think its half as convincing, which is why I created the gimmick. Several thousand magicians and mentalists appear to concur. All: this really should be under the reviews section, and specifically under the thread already open on The Xpert. Let's all reconvene there, shall we? http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&211 Best, Neil

Niel: it is a clever idea and also since the item isn't a uk brand and the fact that no one has asked to look at it (so far) I would be just as comfortable using ungimmiked one. It is only uconvincing if they discover the secret.
Just my opinion...however I congratulate you on your success with Xpert. |

There is a thread in the Good, Bad, and the Ugly that goes into great detail relating to XPert.
