Let me preface this with saying I'm not a marked deck kinda guy. They are just not usually my thing.
however I got some of Steves with recommendation from Paul Wilson and I must say that I am not disappointed.. with in an evening I'm reading these at a glance or from a spread with ease. Where I would never use a marked deck before, I have already found a use for these. |

I'm sorry I need to retract that statement. I've had a few people come forward and tell me the story of how this all came about and I can't in sound mind endorse it..

Could someone have talked to me first? Toby Davies gave me a suggestion on using colour on my amnesia deck when originally chatted about using a crib. Originally I was thinking about objects. I credited him in the accompanying videos with that product. This had no bearing on the GPS deck. This was done separately.
Did Toby suggest putting a crib on the back of every Amnesia card, No Did Toby suggest edge marking the GPS deck, No Did Toby spend 9 months working on two unique decks, No He suggested openly when was creating a crib for the amnesia deck to use colour for the crib, for which I credited him for. 6 months later he said that he was bringing out a colour project, once I'd already ordered the decks. I wish him success with it. |

I'd just like to distance myself from any drama. I can't in sound mind talk up an effect if 5 people have all came to me with questions about it.. a few of whom I trust deeply, they where at my wedding!
might I suggest Contacting Toby and trying to sort this out.. it's a shame, it is a god product I just wish it happened under nicer circumstances. |

This was my statement, if anyone's interested. I'm going away for a few weeks.
I have recently been informed that I should have credited Toby Davies with possibly giving me an idea that is linked to the GPS deck. Back in February we chatted about ideas for my Amnesia Deck. He suggested that I use colours as a code, which was a great idea and for which I credited him for. When we chatted and skyped this week to talk over what had happened back in February. He said that at the same time he suggested that I should put dots on the side of the deck to locate certain cards in the stack, which I honestly truly had forgotten him saying as I was solely focussed on the Amnesia crib coding system at the time. My GPS idea came whilst working with the Amnesia deck and from looking at a chopping board in my kitchen which had different coloured tomatoes on different coloured backgrounds. I noticed on an Amnesia prototype that a borderless background with checkerboard colours put strips of colour on the edge of the deck. From that I designed a harlequin style deck, then which then over many many months of trying different designs and prototypes my designer came up with the current design. Toby wasn’t aware I was wanting to bring out my decks for sale when he offered his suggestion to me to use back in February, and I honestly hadn’t remembered about his suggestion to me when I created the GPS deck. So I am very sorry that I didn’t credit him originally and I wish him luck with any products he may bring out in the future. Toby has some clever ideas and I recommend his magic. I'm only going to add the following. 1 Anyone who knows me, knows I would not take anyones ideas without permission or credit. 2 As Toby said 'he didn’t really seem too interested in my work.' 3 His 'idea' its not a new idea, to put dots on the side of a deck. Theodore DeLand who released a fully edge-marked Wonder Deck in 1915. That marvel is described in Walter Gibson's The Conjuror's Magazine May 1945 that is available on Ask Alexander database. Thanks to Bill Kalush for that reference. Plus there were quite a few edge-marked decks marketed since. Joe Fleischman's Rapid Card Location deck marketed by Joe Berg, Tony Binarelli's deck in Gary Ouellet's book Class Act or The Devil's deck in Tarbell Vol.8. 4 I wasn't purposefully not showing the decks to Toby. I was not showing lots of people. 5 Toby offered his suggestions to be used, even though I didn't listen to them. He didn't think I was planning a product when he gave me the advice. 6 You can't give someone advice and complain when they use it. I have since added him as a credit, even though I genuinely wasn't aware of his input. Best wishes Steve |

GPS Deck – Steve Gore
Product description : Marked deck have been around for years but this is the first one of its kind ! The marking are not only done in a very clever way but also visible without spreading the deck. I can see you have the minds racing with ideas and you’re right, this deck will spark your creativity ! You find any card at any position which is very useful but also very interesting for all the controlling part of your tricks. But is it worth you money ? Let’s find out ! Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $24.95 and you can find on Penguin Magic website ! What you get : You get the deck which is printed by the USPCC so the quality is amazing, I think it’s as good as the good old bicycle you’re used to use. So the cards do fan very well and shuffle and faro as a dream. They did a very good job on the design which helps in disguising the concept, but also gives a natural look to the cards so people won’t think it’s gimmicked. You’re also provided with an explanation video with Steve Gore and Pete Turner and I think it’s great they included a video, it helps beginning with the deck and having your first ideas. Overall, the deck is very well printed and the explanation video gives you the bases for it, I can’t see people being disappointed with the quality of the whole thing, they did a great job ! Teaser : http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/7505 The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end. THE CONS : – Bad eyesight and low light conditions can be a problem in order to read the marks. They’re quite discrete so you need to be aware of that. – The deck is not a Bicycle Rider back design which is the most common back among magician but this is also a pro which I’ll get back to later. – There is an order in the marks, they decided not to put the CHaSeD order which is a shame, it would have been easier (for me, at least). But the order is still very easy to remember. THE PROS : – It’s the first (not the only one right now because The Butterfly deck has been released) deck which allow to spot cards in the deck without spreading it, which is a big plus. – Imagine asking somebody to shuffle the deck and without looking at the faces or spreading it, you can cut to any card you want ! It’s perfect for forces, but also controlling the spectator card. – The design look innocent to me, the aim of Steve was to create a deck you could buy at a gas station and I think they did an amazing job with it. Nobody ever suspected the deck. – This is also great for ACAAN or CAAN, since you know which card is where, you can jazz about it and do some very strong routine. – I think this opens up many possibilities, not only by knowing where a card is but also knowing which card has been removed from the pack ! This is a very strong piece of magic to do, you don’t spread the cards, you don’t look at the face and yet, you can tell them which card they remove. – Unlike the Butterfly, the marks are coloured which means you won’t think the wear marks as actual marks ! It has been a problem with my butterfly deck, when the deck is a little bit used, some white marks appear on the sides (due to shuffles and faros) and they blend into the actual marking which makes is quite difficult. This is not a problem with the GPS. – They included a double backed card in the deck which is a nice intention, some many things can be achieved with it. – The quality is the same as the bicycle one, so you won’t be taken aback by the feel these have. Overall rating : I think this deck does what is written on the tin, and does it very well. I have a feeling many people will find this deck and come up with their own ideas. I already use a Rider Back marked deck so I won’t be using it but it’s a very good one ! 3/4 hearts. As for the difficulty level, the marking system is actually fairly simple to learn, but a little bit of work is still needed, I would say 2/5 stars. Similar products : The Butterfly deck is the direct competitor to the GPS deck, it has also his own pros and cons. Yes agreed.
The GPS deck is a very clever deck indeed. I've never seen a marking system like this (though I'm aware there are predecessors of sorts). It lends itself to all sort of routines - as Steve demonstrates in the videos. My favourite at the moment, more in the vein of mentalism, is to demonstrate the ability to remember the order of a deck with only a brief moment to view them. You can also demonstrate all sorts of card-shark skills (cutting to specific cards etc.). Great fun! Thanks Steve for your creativity and hard work. Very best, Francis

I just did a workshop with Asi Wind and he worked miracles with the GPS deck (His custom licensed and private version of it). It was highly recommended by him.

Just I hope the second version will replace the red marks with more contrasting color, it is difficult to see in low light conditions.
