Not everything in the book fits my style, but as I told you privately I mainly purchased it for your business card routine which was indeed as good as I hoped it would be. Mark's book is also good because he shares a lot of his personal life experiences, good and bad, which is interesting to read and learn from. |

As a rule I do not preorder, nor have I ever asked any of my readers to pay in advance for a product I do not have ready for market.
That said, I did preorder the last 25 issues of Magic Legacy... |

As a supplement to my OP, I have taken preorders for a couple of my products. The reason? They were almost done but I wasn't motivated to finish. I used the pre order and the release date as a way to "force" me to complete. I never even considered missing the release date I announced.
One other note, some have posted they would not rule out pre ordering depending on circumstances. I certainly understand that and that was previously my position. But my OP was my realization that now there is almost no reason to preorder since I can wait, get reviews, order and get the material without waiting and if by chance it sold out I can almost always get a copy second hand for less. |

I agree with you. Also for some reason, few releases offer pre-reviews anymore. It used to be releases were given to maybe a dozen well respected names for their thoughts and review. Of course the reviews were taken from the only positive things they said, but it at least allowed those interested to see who said what and they type of material they typically are known for. This would better reflect at least some type of proper representation to interested buyers. Of course it seems all were reviewed by the same handful of guys as well.
Plus it seems there are few benefits for pre-orders. What to save maybe 10%? I'd rather wait for reviews and postings and pay the extra 10% rather than lose 100% on something I'd regret later. Yes, I would think taking someone's money would be good motivation to stand up and deliver as promised, but as witnessed, it is not always the case. |

Definitely would have saved some money if I had waited (many times the description of the effect in the pre order was misleading and if I had waited I would have learned that the effect played differently than described). By the way, another benefit to waiting isn't just the benefit of reviews---it is the benefit of non reviews. What I mean by that is I can't think of any product that I liked where once it was released, it didn't generate lots of comments. On the other hand, I can remember some products that had much written about it pre-release but after it was sent out---silence. That is a huge red flag and another reason not to pre order. |

Mindpro is spot on. Why take a risk for a 10% saving. Ok you might be a few dollars up if you hit lucky. But you'll be quite a few more dollars down if you don't.
That's why my pre-orders (I've only done 2) are 25% discounted. Each makes decisions based on their own criteria. I wouldn't rule out jumping on a pre-order in the future... But I'm a lot more discerning with regards purchases in general these days. Steve |

Why make a pdf a preorder? There’s nothing to finance, nothing to ship.
