Make statements and clear personal impressions...and your intro should explain what readings are and are not, as well as what they can and cant do...which is entirely personal and tied in with ethics.

LOL...beer and Nascar, I guess. Sorry about that, I just noticed that I would be in the same town as a fellow Café'er, and I never get a chance to actually talk about common interests with real human beings. Looking back, I can see how that was an awkward post. Backing up, we have common interests. I am an English teacher, and I have studied the art of reading for a long time.

It might have to be sweet ice tea and bluegrass, but it sounds good. I forgot you also taught English and so on. Definitely send me a PM.

What I meant was, whenever someone either comes to you to seek advice (be it as a professional or a friend), every statement you are going to make will be interpreted through their own filter of reality. And even a slight pause, saying nothing, or reading a book to them, or just telling them "go to a doctor for that" will be interpreted however they wish. This is not to say one shouldn't send people to a doctor when they come to you with severe health problems because they know you do hypnosis and they think you can give them a quick fix. Happened to me a few times already and I find those discussions pretty daunting (don't know if the word usage is correct here, but it feels correct). I nevertheless will the try to persuade them to go to a doctor, mostly by telling them about experiences either I made or someone else I knew made, just to be more believable. This again is persuading the other person with my language and I am still giving them some kind of advice. But I am digressing. I just wanted to point out, that this topic cannot be brushed off quite as easily...or maybe I haven't figured it out yet and it is just due to my lack of experience. |

252, cars to elaborate on that?
This isn't me being argumentative. I thought it was a clever tic sheet, but didn't find the cube game to be all that great an addition. I am very interested in what others see in products that don't excite me because more than once I have changed how I look at things based on insights from folks who got value out of something I wasn't thrilled with. The Cube is a great tool and an interesting book. Docc did a 1 hour Doccinar on System 88, it is more than just the tic sheet, there is a whole system behind it and the sheet is a presentational tool and cue sheet for the system as well as a nice take home piece. Tony |

I guess my comment was a bit bare bones, huh?
This is just my feel on the topic. I find that occasionally people get put off by certain "oracle" systems. This happens almost never with palmistry, and never in my experience with 88. Also, even skeptical "non believers" seem to open up using it. It's fairly non threatening. I've found that it gives you all the room in the world to develop/further CR. it's an open ended script for an interesting conversation, 100% focused on the spec. And, in the same way I may use just a piece of hypnosis/Train Tracking/whatever, at times, same with this. And it's been pretty accurate by the way. Change that...specs always leave saying it was spot on. I'm a bit under the weather today, so I'll come back when the fog clears :/ 252Hydrate

An old friend and a genuine fraud imparted a bit of wisdom on the subject that I will pass on to you. He said "Don't just tell them what they want to hear. Tell them what they will pay to hear said of them."

A little perspective on me. I don't have Tony's experience (nowhere near) but I read palms and cards at the local metaphysical shop a couple of days a week. So, I do have experience with a couple of oracles, as applied to real people. In that situation, barnum statements and fit-all personality readings don't really mean much. I expect that most of the people who sit with me are at least familiar with some of the tarot cards. I read them straight, not just using them as a prop to feed them a load of waffle.
As I think about it, the System 88 tic sheet really is a good way to get into cold reading (in the sense of all-purpose readings, not just reading a person without preparation). I may have to look at it again. Djin, I enjoyed that! -Patrick |

Graphology is cool for those put off by oracles. It's also a fascinating topic. Once the pen and paper come out, everyone loves comparing their handwriting.
Playing cards are also good because they're more of an everyday item, with less hocus pocus about them. |

I think I may have been the first person to publish regarding the use of "The Cube" as a methodology for professional fortune-telling (as described in my "Collected OORT"). It's a powerful tool since it's genuinely psychological and is a great introduction to using symbolic systems. You can also adapt it to use more conventional dream symbology, such as replacing the cube with a house, and get even better and more detailed interpretations.

I still love the "draw me a tree" approach.
Not that much of fortunetelling but all about the person in the here and now. As I am typing this I am also looking at the tv serie called "the story of God" with Morgan Freeman on the National Geographic channel. In there you can also find a variety of oracles to give readings. |

Wow, loving this thread suddenly.
On Grapology, I recently started to re read Reading Writing. Nice, straight forword, (i.e. Simple ) and geared towards performers. But as for Cube/88, its a really "gentle" appraoch, and fun. Total side note; Got called Satan, and a false prophet (secondary to a CT). I took it as the ultimate complement to the work lol 252GoingSouth
