Hi Everyone!
Been quite a while since I last posted here, but I'm back looking for some help. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as to where I can find information on a few effects I'm working on. I'm not looking for someone to give me the methods to these tricks, but I want to know where I can find them, be it books, lectures, a full trick to purchase. Any insight into where I can find these would be much appreciated and helpful in my search. SO... I am looking for these two effects: First is a visual card (or other card type object like drivers license) through balloon. Similar to Justin Willman's ending of his card in balloon routine, or Barry and Stuart's routine with a person in a balloon, and passing a card through to them. What is this effect called, or where would I find references to the methods used in effects like this? Second trick I'm working on is a double signed card switch from across the room. First person would sign a card, then hold the card face down between their hands. Then a second person on the opposite side of the room would sign a card, which would then be transformed into the first spectators card. Finally the first person reveals that the card they are holding has become the second spectators signed card. I am assuming this type of effect would require some form of preshow work, which is what is required by the method I have come up with myself. I am wondering if there is any material out there on effects like this and the methods used? I would like to refine my methods more, so any information or books relating to an effect like this would be much help. Again any help in pointing me in the right direction is very much appreciated, and I thank you for your time! ~Zach |

Jay Sankey's "Airtight" and ""Airtighter" (on The Real Work on Restaurant and Bars DVD) is a good place to start for the thing through a balloon plot (in this case a pack of cards, then a signed selection).
You might also want to look At Alex Elmsley's "Between Your Palms" and variations thereof for inspiration for your double signed card transposition. Not exactly what your after, but close enough to help I think. You could even routine these two tricks together, performing "Airtight/Airtighter" after your transpo effect. |

I've seen Jay Sankey's "Airtight", and though it's not quite what I'm after, I'm assuming what I am looking for is probably a variation on that effect or something similar. Airtight is more of pulling a card out of a balloon, where the desired effect is to put that card IN the balloon, in a very visual manner. I may have to just try some experimenting with Airtight though and see what I can come up with.
For the card transposition I found a performance video of "Between Your Palms" which does seem to be relatively close to the desired effect. You're right though, not exactly what I'm after but I feel definitely has some insight into the general idea behind the effect. Thanks for the thoughts and help, definitely much appreciated! |

Zach,
I recalled something like with cards and a balloon in The Complete Works of Derek Dingle and Denis Behr's Conjuring Archive confirmed there are two Card in Balloon items there. (Thank you Denis again!) It looks like the effect was also published in Apocalypse. The Dingle book is wonderful if you can find it. Denis lists nineteen more items with the words "card" and "balloon" but nothing there was familiar to me. Howard |
