Mine may be Tai Chi Sword by the elusive builder, Rip Vanwinkle:
http://www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/clo......anwinkle It is build exactly like the Tenyo prop, but in wood and metal. I believe there were only 3 made.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

The Dragon Sticks are stunning by the way. I love everything this shop has been turning out. Their versions of the Vision Cube are simply amazing.

Toss up between my Anverdi Keybox and my Stull Mental Miracle Watch. Both for their rarity and monetary value as physical props. I guess their actual value as an effect doesn't hurt. They're both killer effects.

An old "Coin Shooter" I picked up at Blackpool at a bargain price few years ago.
It shoots coins one by one from your sleeve into your hand. |

I would say it's a toss up between Anverdi's Color Pens or the Die.
They both use the same clipboard.
May the FORCE be with you and have a magical day!

George Millward Ball and Cone
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa120......5fao.jpg Not just any one- it's the one he used for the last 20 some years and the same one that he used on his Ball and Cone DVD with Johnny Thompson. It still looks new with only slight wear. Really well made. George's Chinese Sticks are a thing to behold as well. Great builder who has retired from magic and is now building other things with as much if not more skill. Hope to see him again when I get to Vegas in February of 2017. BTW his dye tubes are some of the best ever made better than the P&L, Thayer and Ireland models. His Dye tube for the 24" silks is really nice. Wizard did you ever meet Rip Vanwinkle? Really cool guy and great builder who lives near the same town I am in. Rip only builds in really small production. He made a few things I seen like his beer keg easel which is just amazing and I know his stuff takes a long time to build and paint. Everything I seen from him is really well made. |

My most prized Magic Prop isn't a prop at all.....it's my lifelong collection of Magic Books, most of them autographed to me by the Magicians who wrote them.

Yes, the Tarbell series are great too! And most of these books and lecture notes tell you how to build props inexpensively.
If I knew 10% of what Tarbell has contained in its volumes, I'd be the World's Greatest Magician!
May the FORCE be with you and have a magical day!

If it must be a PROP, I am "torn between"! The first prop that I ever bought from a magic dealer (Abbott's) in April of 1945, ($1.75) was a BRAKAWA FAN! At first, I just used it as the instructions sheet directed (like everyone else that I've seen use it since!)
After a few years, I realized that done in the "standard" way, it amounted to a "put down" of the person who "couldn't open it without breaking it". My job was to entertain, not embarrass! I put it on a shelf. It rested there for several years. A couple of years went by. Then, a "light bulb" lit up in my brain. I tried out my new idea. BINGO!!! Using the fan, now got a half dozen nice laughs, and, the spectator was not embarrassed. In addition, I now had a FINISH for the fan! --And, the finish got one more laugh, plus APPLAUSE! --AND, ON TWO OCCASIONS IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS, THE FAN ROUTINE GOT A STANDING OVATION! I published the fan routine in my book ("DICK OSLUND -- ROAD SCHOLAR") The fan routine "comes" at the end of some comedy with an "ordinary" (!!!) wand, plus a breakaway wand, plus a shooting wand. (The wand "bits" are in the book, too.) I bought the "other" prop at the Karland Frischkorn estate sale, in 1954. It was a simple thing. I had wanted one when I first saw a picture of it in Abbott's #7 Catalog. It was priced at $10.00 in the catalog. I bought it for $5.00 at the sale! (I've always loved a bargain!) The DEMON WONDER BOX could produce SIX 12" silks. (HO HUM?) Read on: I wasn't interested in just producing six 12" silks. (There wasn't ANY REASON to produce 6 12" silks! One of my mentors had shown me the "Elusive Silk Vanish" (an old Burling Hull concept, a method for a barehand vanish of a small silk. It was a STRONG vanish! It definitely fooled 'em. but, I had learned that a vanish, no matter how good, generally did not elicit much applause. (Check out Thurston's IASIA (vanish of a girl) as told by the late George Boston in his book, "Inside Magic". I wrote up that anecdote in the book, too.) The Demon Box could give me a finish for the Elusive Silk Vanish! Plus, I could get some "magician in trouble" laughs before the final reproduction of that 12" silk!!! EUREKA! (in Greek, EUREKA = I have found it!) I vanished the purple 12" silk, and, then told the audience, that, the silk, after disappearing, would reappear in "this little silver box". I opened the box. They could see right through it. No silk. Aha! "Everybody shout the magic word!" They did. I opened the box reached in and brought out a green silk. I closed the box. "Let's try again!" A yellow silk! Closed the box. "One more time!" Opened the box. Success! I produced the purple silk! APPLAUSE! I has a fun five minutes which INVOLVED the audience. I used that for several years! (My motto has always been: K I S M I F! (Keep It Simple Make It Fun) A few years later, I decided to put the 20th Century Silks "in". I used the Elusive to vanish the rainbow silk. And..... well, I wrote up the 20th C routine in the book. It's so strong that it's NEXT TO CLOSING in the elementary school program! I vowed, many years ago, that I would never "fall in love" with a prop. But, I guess it's OK to have a few "favorites"!

My most valued props are my Punch & Judy.sets. ( I have 2). I keep saying that I'm going to sell them, but it's hard to bring myself to do it. Recently one of my grandkids asked for a set. (He's 21). I'm going to give him my working set along with the booth. The 2nd set has never been used. My daughter and son-in-law wants those, but knowing how they take care of things, I said no.
I also have a Stull watch and a vintage Abbott's Mutilated Parasol. Well over 50 years old and in excellent condition. I'm in my 80s. It's time to liquidate. |

Hello Dick ......
Let me know if you find a good place to sell some of those things. We're talking about possibly making another move, and the less that I have to schlep, the better. This would be the 2nd downsize. |

Happy to pass the word along!
When I started to DEcumulate, a few years ago, I thought that it might be "difficult" to part with some things that I had had since "forever". I had an Abbott"Unbelievable Production Box" that an old carnie side show manager had given me in 1945. It was the first "big" prop that I had gotten. I had used it in a hundred shows. I took it to Abbott's Flea Market. I marked it rather high, I thought. I guess I was hoping that no one would be interested. A magician who collected old Abbott props walked up, and saw the box. He reached for his wallet. I groaned! Out of his wallet came a wad of bills! He departed, a happy man! By the next day, I had forgotten about it! Since that day, I've unloaded suitcases, that were full of "apparatus and paraphernalia". I still have too much! I've been in this apartment since the fall of 2012. I would hate to move. (I have a "million dollar view of Lake Michigan!) I can WALK (2 blocks) to church. The rent is reasonable. On the first floor is a laundromat, a game room, a "party" room, etc. "They" keep the snow plowed! O
