I've been completely out of touch with mentalism for the last eighteen months or so. But as a huge fan of prop-less mentalism in an informal context I wonder if any Café members could suggest items for me to check out that have been released in the past couple of years. I've been dipping my toe back in by purchasing items such as 'Rose' and 'Kings Never Die' and I can't say I've been particularly inspired.
Are there effects that Café members would say have really stood out and advanced the thinking in a significant way? I'm especially interested to hear if anyone feels there have been any significant effects pertaining to name divinations, word divinations, star sign and birthday divinations or thought card effects.
Please feel to PM me or reply on here with your recommendations. All help appreciated.

Martin, try Atlas Brookings and Fraser Parker. Both have a lot of prop-less material.

Thank you Cody. I am a massive admirer of Atlas's work. It is so thoroughly tested and considered and beautifully written. In fact, I've just re-read Train Tracking to enjoy the prose!
Sadly, I think Fraser Parker's material is the polar opposite. I find it incredible that people can charge money for such poorly written, poorly thought out material.

Thanks j100. I have Tequila Hustler and found it an interesting variation on the theme.

Are you familiar with the works of Aaron Alexander? He has a very different approach... his Ant Queen is one of my all time favorites, although I admit it won't suit everyone... but I think it's still free to get, so if you don't know it, give it a read Smile Aaron's Zodiac Killer is a very interesting Zodiac divination and his book "Pygmalion Effects" is great!

I also like Matt Mello's Heritage, from "State of Mind"...

A few people told me that Strange Oblique by Mark Elson is really enjoyable if you enjoyed TH. Cannot tell that personally though, cause I haven't read it, yet.

Regarding Atlas's effects, I really like his cloud9 which is in his penguin lecture as well as in his Intrepid book. (birthday div)

Mark Elsdons penguin lecture are really amazing, especially the discussion he has with Dan Harlan in his 2nd lecture, where they talk about E***v***e for quite some time. Really good!

Martin, it looks like that you got you were looking for. Nothing to add; I read (permanently) a lot, and I agree to many of the statements above. The really (IMHO) good things you seem to know. And any other really good stuff I did not discover the last 18 months or so - apart what you know already of course Smile . Jan

I have V by Manos and really like the prop-less, one question/no question which hand. I do not have TH, huge Elsdon fan though, but as I understand it, it is similar to his effect in CAM 1. The number of revisions that have come out on this theme latley I think are great. Really feels like mind reading to me.

Not personally familiar with Sudo Nimh, is there a particular routine that is prop-less, really great, or is it a majority of their stuff? Thanks!

V by Manos ? Personnaly I don't like the method...the script is too weird for me.
I prefer TH (with operation gemini), Manoeda (with a personal solution) and the effect of Barry Richardson in Theatre of the Mind.

I don't use the script exactly from V, just the idea. The script is a little different. The timing, for me at least, is very important. If you go to quickly I think it tips the method.

V has 4 different effects, for me the two person version that is essentially prevaricator without needing to prevaricate is for me the best version of this particular l***c p****e I have ever come across.
