So the more and more I try to make these tables to my liking and the more I use them, the more I notice the felt usually starting to come off.
Am I better off buying a close up pad to replace the felt used or is there different felts out there? Don't get me wrong, I can do everything on a flat surface or a felt one. It's just a preference for me. Chris |

I've been very happy with a close-up pad from http://www.pattricksmagic.com/, I use that as my table surface and set it in a wooden frame. That way I can easily switch it out if I have to.

Check out neoprene. It's what wet suits are made of and available in most large fabric stores. It glues well to wood and wears like iron while giving a nice performance surface.
You can also use car headliner (I think that's what it's called) material. It's the stuff used on the inside roofs of cars. It's got a nice felt type surface and there a bit of cushioning almost like a close up mat.

Hey Chris,
....leave it to imgic, to bring a bit of seriousness back into the discusion(!). I actually thought about it for a second; 'felt' is NOT what you want! Felt, is hair, rolled together, when wet. Warm, but not durable. I believe, a woolen CLOTH, is what you want. It's weaved,....has some strength. And comes in various textures. Then I took a look. This came up: http://www.cuesight.com/types-of-pool-table-felt.html It's an interesting article. They explain a lot. (Personally, ..and this is coming from a man who uses NÖ 'matts'', 'pads', or 'tables'; I would not go with the plastic or rubber.) Anyways, wish you well. [How's Austrailia? I'd love to hear more. Where are you staying? Are there Pitches? Weather? Audiences?.? ,....how is their English?,... 🙃] good travels, Gallagher p.s.: Back to your 'tableTop' question. My daughter, who sews my costumes, just called. ,....not because of you(!). She told me, "A blend of wool and silk(6%), is the strongest, most durable, of natural cloths. ,,.a variete of textures exists." ...good luck! |

One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

A horse walks into a bar.
The bartender says, "Hey, why the long face?"

My preference is to use hard wood to produce sound when the cups hit the table, which helps capture and maintain attention. Just something to consider.
