Just wanna drop some of my thoughts after following this thread for several days. Plastic or clay, light or heavy, as long as the gimmick is able to achieve the effect I desire, I will use it even if it is made out of a cardboard quality. As long as it works, I'm in.
Eric Jones is one of the top coin guys out there, and if he loves it, I don't understand why there is still doubt on "only for beginner/only for those who are not used dealing with coins" etc type of questions. To wrap up, it all comes down to what magic is to you. To me, as long as my audiences love it, I love it. Just my 2cents.

I received this and I like it. With regard to the weight, yes, the chips are light but certainly workable. I work with coins almost exclusively and I don't have any problem at all working with these poker chips. Also I have very dry hands but I find no difference at all between these chips and split coins. Basically if you work with coins you won't have any problems using these chips. E.g., if your dry hands require you to use lotion for your coin magic, then you'll need it for these chips too. The weight difference is no more trouble than switching from dollar coins to halves, or from halves to quarters. Coin guys do this regularly; it won't be a problem with these poker chips either.

The muscle pass is not even one of the slights they are showing. From what the demo shows there are a lot of really good things you can do with this. Whould one not buy this because the muscle pass be a issue?

I'm thinking that these chips and gaffs can be used along with Eric's Metal DVD series, so that's a bonus imo

Also just because something is not taught with a gimmick doesn't mean you can't use them for other things. I mean If I only did what was taught with some of the gimmicks that I bought then I wouldn't have half the things I do. I will see something and think well I'm not a fan of the effect but that gaff can be used to do X,Y or Z. It is part of being creative.

It's always difficult for any item to be all things to all people. If the chips were twice as nice but cost twice as much then you would no doubt get an equal number of people commenting that it is not for them and that they are going to pass on this one.
It seems the primary reason they were worker of the week on WPR is the fact that they considered them to be a great value for the money. Usually whenever anything is a great value for the price some compromises have to be made, but it seems that most of the people who actually own this or have seen it in person are pretty happy with the set. |

I agree with videoman. This set will have different value/worth to different people. It is certainly good from a value standpoint.
Re: the split coin, has anyone else had an issue with the chips becoming more difficult to slide the more you play with them? I've been playing with mine a lot and they seem to stick a lot more than they did when they were new. Wonder if there is any kind of teflon spray that could be used. |

I keep a roll of this on hand for coin gaffs and similar uses, especially the DFSTC.
A 5 yd. roll lasts forever and works wonders. It protects as well as eliminating friction. Totally invisible unless viewed under a magnifying glass. I like the 1.5" width as it covers a dollar sized coin with no seams but I think it would fit well on the chips too but they do have other widths. For those who miss the muscle pass and the tought routines even might not be enough you can adapt parts of this routine with your new set of chips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWsBoeR3UYg
Further routines sleep in your mind and may be awakened. |

@corindaman - I don't have buyers remorse, I'm sure I will have a lot of fun with these chips. I just would have assumed that is something that WMS would have mentioned.
@J-Mac - Your review was helpful, its good to know as a coin worker the weight difference doesn't throw you off As to the weight even being an issue: I started as a beginner with quarters, moved to standard half dollars , then to morgan dollars cause I really like the weight and sound. I have since decided to go for walking liberties to get the sound, weight and a better size (for my hands). Each time I switched it took a little time to adjust to the new coins (due to weight, size etc.) so I assumed I would have to do the same for the chips. That being said, seeing as these were designed for the coin guy (beginner or pro) then I would have thought the weight would have been something they messed with till eric was happy with it. Just my thoughts, I'll know better when I receive my set Sat. Sure Ill have fun with them regardless |

The fact that the chips are not clay is a deal breaker for me.
I already have a TUC poker chip, I am willing to pay the extra money and get the rest from Tango. Tango does not match this set, but there is enough for me between the TUC, [, and scotch & soda poker chips. |

I bought two of these one for my buddy from Penguin Magic . Both sets Lock up too the point we can't separate the chips? We Struggle to do the turn over move Eric teaches.
We have worked them in but it still sticks. I see some guys are talking about using plastic to make them slide. I wonder If tyvek would have been the better choice as it would have minimal friction and last a life time. We have tried pushing gently sides the don't budge. My friend is an expert coin worker and he can't always separate them and won't perform under these conditions 70% of the time it gets stuck. I agree as you have to be 100% confident the effect is going to work. Any thoughts or suggestions because Iwe are not going to use these chips. Very disappointed as it was not cheap paying for shipping, duty and our low Candian dollar. $70 dollars Canadian each. I will be emailing Penguin Magic as this is not working for us and they stand behind their products. I always from them but somethings a miss with this product. Man we are frustrated. Mike

I cut a piece a couple inches bigger than the coin and carefully apply it to the coin. Be careful to avoid getting fingerprints on the area that will actually contact the coin. Press it firmly on the coin. Next I take a new and sharp razor blade and carefully trim it to the size of the coin using the edge of the coin as a guide. This I mainly do for split type gaffs. It makes them slide like butter and will last a long time. Protects any stickers if there are any such as on a DFSTC. I've also used it inside of shells when I feel it necessary. It helps quiet them especially if the shell is kind of loose fitting. When placing it inside a shell it doesn't need to be cut to fit perfectly. It does affect the sounds of coins clinking but in almost all cases that I've used it that is a moot point because I'm not going to be clinking those coins anyway. But even on solid regular coins it doesn't affect the sound as much as you might think. You can get away with it IMO, but that's kind of a subjective thing so others may disagree. But again, sound is not really a concern 99% of the time because you can't clink those coins anyway regardless if they have the tape or not. |

The only thing I think is lacking in this is Eric's teaching of some of the slights like the shuttle pass, etc, he does cover them, but it seems only in passing, this might be an issue for the 'newbie' to coins, such as myself, which is why I also got the first volume of his Metal series so I can work on the slights with the ungaffed chips.
