Does anyone know the origination of the forced perspective method ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_perspective ) used to conceal an object?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJgExLxRA4U It's been used on TV by Criss Angel, Franz Harary and many others... but was it done prior and is the method itself considered public domain? Thank you! |

I can't see how you would patent forced perspective effects.
I have done it before myself for TV. Just know that many consider it to be "cheating".

This is another example of magicians using the most up-to-date technology to create new magic and illusions. After observing and studying forced perspective techniques dating back to the movies of Georges Méliès (1902), such as his famous "Le Voyage dans la Lune" < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNLZntSdyKE > certain magicians and illusionists learned to accomplish the same on stage or even close-up for live presentations before live audiences. There are various ways to use forced perspective in live magic, whether some consider it "cheating" or not. When you analyze it, ALL magic contains some cheating. It's what we do best when we get away with it. Just as one example, I can force perspective by giving you a reason to close one eye, such as by giving you a "magic" telescope to view something. We're "upstairs" here so I won't give away any secrets, but if you understand what I am talking about, you'll see it IS possible without resorting to trick photography and sending you off to some other forum. And thanks to the examples of Monsieur Méliès, I would say that the basic principle is now well within the public domain.

If it's done live, then it's fine by most, regardless ofhow you achieve it except for an all audience of just stooges.
It's the TV thing that some find issue with. But hey, people will keep doing it regardless, so... 😋
