I think I learned this from an Ammar video but I can't remember. Then I forgot it for years and just remembered it a few months back. Does anyone get as much mileage out of this as I do? I mean this absolutely kills every single time I do it. I don't see why anyone would ever do a different version. Anyone else absolutelt love this trick?

Whilst OOTW is a great effect I've never taken the time to really work on it as I prefer most of my magic to happen in the air rather than on a table.

"Out of This World" CAN take place "in the air" as well as on a table. I do a stage version using ultra jumbo cards (8.5" x 11") in which the cards are placed in an upright stand as directed by various spectators from across the audience. This makes it ideal for performing a "Krampusnacht" version as well as the usual playing card version with lots of audience participation.

Your probably correct however when performing walk around magic say during cocktails/champagne reception people tend to have their hands occupied with drinks etc so magic that is quick, visual and or multi phase seems to be more suited to this type of environment.

Aren't most versions of OOTW self-working?

Guessing the OP meant "impromptu"

OOTW is obviously not suited to that environment, so I don't know why we are discussing this. BUT as long as you brought it up, to perform as a strolling or walk around effect, all you need is a breast pocket in your costume and a similar pocket in a spectator's outfit so you can sort the cards into two groups - for example, red cards in your pocket, black cards in the spectator's pocket.

Also, There is no law requiring you to perform this with an entire deck. You can have two people remove their choice of (for example) ten red cards or ten black cards from a deck. Shuffle those 20 cards together and begin the OOTW version of your choice.

This weekend I saw Joe Barry performing the best version I've ever seen. I don't know the method, but the spectators shuffled before and during the selection of cards. The process of selecting was entertaining, did not feel tedious at all. Went through the whole deck but not all cards were put in one of the piles, some were discarded. The packets never touch. It was so clear and so clean, that one of the spectators jumped out of the table and walked away as he realized he had seen the impossible. This was a magic convention, so both spectators were magicians.

Yeah I'm sorry guys I meant impromptu. Although it is obviously self working as well. This gets just as great of a reaction of any other version of ootw that I've ever done.

You raise some interesting points and must admit I've never thought of putting the cards in to pockets so thanks for bringing those points to my attention Smile

BBM does a great version on their new "Any Shuffled Deck" release. I can't see myself doing any other version, it's really well done, self working and impromptu!
