I love not too far away from Calico Ghost Town, in the Mohave Desert. When I wasn't a kid, we used to go motorcycle riding in other parts of the desert, and sometimes we'd stop at Calico (I always asked to). Driving past en route to Vegas recently, I was thinking about those trips. Anyone else like those places, or been to one? I don't believe in actual ghosts, but it's still sort of cool, in an uncanny way, but sort of sad, too, to think that the very location you're in was once a vibrant place, with people no longer here working, playing games, having conversations, enjoying meals...now just a shell of the past.

Hi Lobo, visiting (and metal detecting in) Ghost Towns has been a hobby of mine for many years.

There were lots of ghost buildings after the war, bomb pecks, which we used to play in as kids. Business’s just left decaying for years, as if people had vanished one day and left everything. There was race courses, which never reopened and so on. Big things like airfields etcetera just deserted.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

But I thought Calico isn't really Calico, because the buildings were relocated to Knott's Berry Farm?

Calico is almost exactly as it was when I first visited there in the 1950s. Last visit was en route to MindVention in Las Vegas in 2012. The town at Knott's is all more modern, but they do use the name Calico which might be confusing.

I'm at Calico right now as I write this. A mix of authentic and touristy. I think you'll find Bodie more historically authentic. There is a great drone video of it.

We just did the photo shoot for the new shows in a place just outside of Las Vegas that is a ghost town. I love the atmosphere.

Let the record reflect that Danny didn't say he did the shoot in Calico.
