Actually, I'm more of a wild west kinda guy.
I love the street, its unspoken laws, its final judgement. The street is as just as anything else I've seen. Can't say that much for a council of uneducated, know nothing bureaucrats. Who negotiate with the ACLU (who know less) to enrich all parties concerned. All parties, but the artists; the spokespeople of truth. Not volume, but truth. Nah, I'd rather render judgment to a random public jury than to a vested-interest schill. |

I agree with every word you said Eric and you description of Fremont is priceless.
What you said is so adequately put. I have never agreed to permits, rules or regulations for busking. We be taking care of our self's for a very long time. Once they are introduced them, the line has been crossed and you have to work with them. Once a pen-pusher rules then there is no turning back. Kiss good bye to your freedom, freedom of speech and all the you hold dear. In my mind once the line is crossed and regulations rules are in place. Then resit a permit system is still not the way forward it is more of the same but worse. Its a sad day but it sounds like to me regulators need a clear definition of what a busker is and is not. They created them self's this office job, now they need to work in the interest of the public, Freemont and Buskers, creating a space for street performers as part of the Fremont experiance. On the other hand I guess it all mind blowing for a day tripper and they just don't care as long as the house in winning. |

Here is a blog I did back in 2013 on freedom of expression that I think relates to this topic.

Very well said Mario,
How do you get rid of the people standing with a card board sign? Claiming they are busking? Maybe no permit but some kind of audition. |

Society today,
here in the 'Western World', has very little 'basis'*. Most people stand for the 'fact', that they stand for nothing. If a 'possible' Audience, would watch a 'possible' Show, and tell the guy, "What a bag of rubbage!"... If folks WOULD NOT give a junk-twisted-addict a drop,.. If folks would tell an arogant ego-twisted-idiot, with an amp,.. to shove it.... If a shop owner would tell the bum to move his butt from the store front window... * 'basis' is simply another word for 'Balls'. Freedom, without the courage to define it, ..defend it,.. What is that? None. . . . . . . .. .. .. . . . ö. . . . . . ß. . . .. . It's ironic, that the most liberal places to Busk, are also the 'poorest'. 'Poorest',...economically. If we,..YOU, can change your values, just slightly(!), strive for a bit of 'human warmth',.. When Frederick Douglass rhapsodized about, "patient, enduring, honest, unremitting and indefatigable work, into which the whole heart is put",... he was talking about 'happiness'. 'Mobility' is a key. Combined with 'Hope',... 'Flexiblity' can be achieved. The ablity of a true Master. I wish us all well. The courage to keep 'trying' for it. 🙃 And the 'goodness' to keep 'giving it'. gallagher |
