Hey everyone. Here's a list of stuff I'm thinking of buying. Let me know what you think of all or some of them. I'd like some feedback before I buy so I don't waste moolah on stuff that's no good.
Electric Deck: Just for fun and photos Appearing Flowers: Appearing rose $25.00 14 of Spades: Revalation of two spectators. One picked the 9 'o' Spades, the other picked 5 'o' spades. $1.98 ea. Flash Paper:Need more for finger flasher. Flash cotton any good? Looooong Card: Same as w/ 14 'o' spades, but w/ different punchline. One side says three of hearts, but when fully pulled out of pocket it's revealed to have 8 hearts and it's long. $3.98 ea. Kaps on Fire Wallet: Self explanitory 45:00 Nielson Palming Coins: 12 for misers dream and for carry around $3.50 ea. Yellow Soft Cotton Rope 50': for my rope routine. Any good place to buy this in bulk? (not magicians rope, soft cotton rope w/ no core $20.00 Thumb Tip Flames: Looks fun. Any good? $15.00 ea. Watch Winder: Gag noisemaker. "Wind up anything" $3.00 Backstabber: King of hearts gag where it's turned over and revealed that the swords are not in his head, but rather BEHIND him. The swords pierce one or two selected cards. $15.00 Bleeding Heart: Four aces are revealed in any fashion. (Twisting the aces maybe). A story about love is told. When the last is revealed (ace of hearts) it talks about one true love, and how she broke my heart. My last memory was her pinning a flower on my lapel for the prom. A pin is taken out and the ace is stabbed. It then starts bleeding. Includes fake blood recipe $22.50 Crystal Treasure Box: Card holder that seems molded around the cards. Only the magi can open it. $10.00 These are the main ones I was thinking of. They total to over 200 smackaroos so if any of them aren't worth getting I'd like to know, to cut down cost. They all sounded good to me though. My b-day is around the corner (April 1st!) so I need to know what tricks to pressure my family into buying me. LOL. Thanx to anyone that has the patience to read this, and any comments would be greatly appriciated. Thanx again, -Jordini |

Ok...
I think you are WAY too much into gimicks and gimicked "gag" cards. I think you could cut out just about everything except the Rope, Palming Coins, Flash Paper and maybe that kaps on fire. I wouldn't recommend the fire wallet, it isn't very magical, the usual effect is shock and "wow where did you get that nifty wallet". Also it looks terribly out of place in anything other than a suit. I say scrap the flames and get a good CTW like the real man's Wallet, then you can do CTW the right way, with something that looks normal and not like a gimick. The gag cards and flowers and sight gags and sound gags and stuff are all great, but you have a great oppertunity(200 bucks) here to buy some nice books, DVD's and other quality learning material. Buying a bunch of "utlity" stuff might be great, but can you think of a time where you would actually want to carry ALL THAT on you, and use them in successive effects? I would go for some quality material instead of a bunch of assorted "gag" stuff.... |

You might include a caddie in your list, to carry all that stuff.

Well, I need it for different occasions, not for all time use. I'll mainly have the electric deck for when I might have pictures taken, because I don't have time or patience to perfect armspreads. Many of the gimmicks are for shows. (Baking a cake, I need an appearing flower, for flour of course). And the gaff cards are for when I do card revalations at closeup shows.

For the flash paper vs flash wool. Not sure on the workings of the finger flasher. If it similar to the hand flasher and wand e.t.c.. It is good to use a small part of wool and then fill with paper. Someone else hopefully will be able to advice whether this is wise!!

Finger flasher is basically a flint which sparks into a cup that holds flash paper or cotton

I'm with you on the gag cards, Jordini. A lot of old-schoolers hate them, but I think they're a hoot, an make for many laughs with the specs!
And if you dig the elctric deck, grab a spring fan or two. These are hilarious! |

Rock on. Thank you FireDice. I like the gag cards because they venture away from ordinary. Magic is always assisted when it comes to suprises and things that are out of the ordinary and not expected.

If you just want the electric deck for photos, why don't you save some money and scotch tape the cards together on the backs?
The rest of the things are fine, IMHO. Just remember that fire and flames are illegal in many places, and you may just get tossed out of one of your favorite haunts if you are not careful.

Well....I want the electric deck for photos AND for amusment as well. Maybe performances, but I'm not sure.
As for the fire, I'll be sure to be careful w/ it. I was using it at orchestra rehersal and the flash paper flew out of the sparker (with a LOT of sparkle additive). It looked like a giant fireball and some girls I was showing freaked out and screamed. When the conductor (who had his back to it) turned around, it had burned up so he didn't see it. No smoke, no fire, no nothing. It was a great moment. But in the future I'll be more careful. |

Jordini,
Just do what you want. Evey bit of advice you just come back and justify. I guess you are set on your ideas. That is good by the way. I love long card and funny playing cards. The audience loves them as well. Have fun with your magic. |

Ok. Thanx everyone for the input. I think I'll go w/ everything excluding kaps (gonna look into en fuego) appearing flowers, thumb tip flames and bleeding heart. Those seem the least likely I will use.

I use mine ALL the time - even without a coat and tie. It gets a great reaction, people remember me by it, it creates GREAT photo opportunities with the hosts of the gig, and it's a terrific opening to my 4 card kollasal killer. It totally depends on how you use it. Be mature. Don't just open your wallet and show fire because you can use it as an opening. I have never had the occasion to be asked to put it away. Even some birthday parties I book the mothers encourage the fire believe it or not. John Cesta |

Electric Deck: Just for fun and photos
For your own advertising, that's a good idea. 14 of Spades: Revalation of two spectators. One picked the 9 'o' Spades, the other picked 5 'o' spades. $1.98 ea. I wouldn't bother with that one. Looooong Card: Same as w/ 14 'o' spades, but w/ different punchline. One side says three of hearts, but when fully pulled out of pocket it's revealed to have 8 hearts and it's long. $3.98 ea. Those are awesome! Highly recommended. Watch Winder: Gag noisemaker. "Wind up anything" $3.00 It's pretty funny. If a spectator looks tired, wind him up. Always an awesome gag. Bleeding Heart: Four aces are revealed in any fashion. Includes fake blood recipe $22.50 I don't like that one very much. A while back I developed a trick where the magician takes the hit instead of the card, which I use a lot more often. My own tribute to the magicians of old. I removed references to the stuff I don't know about.
Think inside the box. . . it's less crowded.
