David Hira LIVE: Sunday Dec 18th @7:00pm Eastern. (Penguin LIVE) Motivating you to share your magic with enthusiasm and love for your audience.SUPPORT LIVE
http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/7642 "David Hira is a consummate professional who knows that the true secret to magic resides in the ability to connect with an audience and, without regard to the particular miracles they may have witnessed, have them leave with a smile on their faces. Otherwise stated, David knows that the secret to magic entertainment lies not so much in the magic as it does in the entertainment. It's a lesson too few practitioners have learned, and one should not pass up the opportunity to study it with David Hira."- Rich Bloch "When it comes to thoroughly entertaining an audience with magic, David Hira knows what he is talking about. Do yourself a favor and tune into his Penguin presentation. I know I am!" - Kevin James "The information that David is sharing with you will make you instantly popular and well-liked in any circle, on stage and off! I am always in awe of the energy David gives off, always, no matter what time or day. His philosophy is in the giving because when you give, you receive. David teaches you how to give generously, with your magic, so that what comes back is 10 times more. He will give you tips and ideas on how to make this happen for you, on stage and off! He's brilliant! Don't miss it."- Jade "David Hira is a Master Magician. He regularly performs close-up sleight-of-hand magic to full evening illusion shows. He is a consummate performer and showman. David Hira knows how to ENTERTAIN and ENGAGE the members of his audience. I personally have benefited from his knowledge of presentation and showmanship. His advice has made my magic stronger and. I can honestly say, has made me a better magician." - Lonnie Chevrie What will he teach? Toilet Paper Opener: a high-energy opener that's sure to get attention, involving multiple people right away using an object you'll find everywhere. Cards and Wine Glasses: Play big, interesting, and interactive. Cards displayed in wine glasses are eliminated until only one remains. Yes, it matches the prediction. David's Silk to Egg: a highly-practical solution which doesn't require a fragile egg in your pocket. Rudolph's Nose: a quick bit where a coloring book picture of Rudolph suddenly glows on the nose! Mental Photography Surprise: David’s climax to this wonderful stock trick leaves audiences gasping and laughing out of the sheer surprise. Take this deck out drawer and dust it off… you’ll use this all the time! And so much more... David also shows how you can get people involved even in a simple trick, and a way to use the handkerchief up the sleeve to work the entire room. Who is he? David Hira has been entertaining audience for over 45 years. With over 350 paid appearances every year (417 shows in 2014) David has performed for some of the biggest companies for their employee and client events for YEARS and currently performs on cruise ships, at trade show and celebrity home parties. As I understand, the Penguin Live series is primarily meant for magician. Thus, IMO, David has shared nothing exclusive. The effects shared are very elementary basics.

I feel David has taken good care of his business interest by advertising and taking a good amount of lecture time on one of his oncoming item - 'The Wrist Tie' . Also he took a good amount of time speaking on the never ending topic of 'Ethics in Magic' Just MY thoughts.

I like his take on the silk to egg and the change bag tip is gold... I tried it on myself and you not only see the magic you "feel" it. Because of David I'm now looking for my mental photography deck.

This was different from most penguin lectures. It was clear from the very beginning that Hira is a real worker and he has really worked to layaudiences. This is becoming a big thing in penguin lectures that sadly have lost lots of their quality from the first years. Hira's stage material was different, well explained and entertaining. Nothing I would use but good still
Hira's close-up however wasnt up the par. Anyone been in magic more than a year knows the stuff he did. However his reasoning why to include the material in lecture was good but still it felt as filler. And last but not least the thing that made me cringe was his advises on how to get tips. To me they were in same category as begging and his attitude was in my eyes similar to beggars and homeless people as well. I recommend everyone to totally skip this part of the lecture. If I ever saw anyone act like Hira suggests at restaurant I would immediately walk to manager and ask him to fire him |

If your a hobbyist this isn't for you. if you perform magic for people other then your friends and family and get paid for it then this is for you. It's not all about the tricks, it's what he says in between the tricks and the reasoning around them that make this a great lecture. You can see the experience behind the reasoning of it all. I don't do silk to egg , and for the very same reason David Hira didn't do it but now I will because of his simple tips and techniques and the reasoning behind it.

It is definitely a great lecture for professionals or those that are trying to be professionals. As a hobbyist, I still took great appreciation in the reasoning and purpose behind it. His call to perform was much needed for me.

I had a chance to be in the audience for this lecture. I've been a lot of magic lectures in my life, and this was one of the best. But, If you're looking for the latest trick, this one is probably not for you. This is for those of us who have more tricks than we know what to do with. I really appreciated the way he tried to connect with the spectators. For example, when he performed a sponge ball routine he tried to make as much happen in the spectator's hands, than his. His attitude is more about the spectators discovering and making the magic happen, instead of trying to show off how clever he is.
I recently performed a Valentine's dinner show at the request of a good friend. The show was supposed to be for adults. What I didn't know is that babysitting was being provided for the kids in another room. But, when it came time for me to perform they brought the kids in. Using some of David's thinking, I improvised a gypsy thread routine using about 10 of the kids. I tore off a piece of string for each of them, had one kid collect up all the string, and then handed 'my string' to one of the kids to pull the ends apart for the restoration. This is the kind of thinking David puts into his close-up and I think he demonstrated several ideas around this.

Hi Guys!
First of all, I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I had NO IDEA that this topic of my lecture was on the Magic Café! WOW. Thanks to each of you for contributing your thoughts and honest reviews. For those of you who understood what this lecture was all about, how it was intentionally designed... thank you. For Ustaad who seems to have missed the entire point of the lecture, I'm sorry that it was not more clear to you. To korttihai_82, my goodness. You'd actually tell a manager of a working magician in a restaurant that he should be fired? (Yikes!) But, for the REST OF YOU... thanks for understanding the this lecture was all about giving you lessons in showmanship, ethics and in how to have interpersonal relationships with your audience. Now go share your magic with the world... and be kinder than necessary to everyone you meet. Everyone is facing some sort of battle you know nothing about. Let's work to brighten their day. |
