Seeing Tim's post mentioning both the Magic Way and the Magic Rainbow leads me to notice that... the language used to talk about The Magic Rainbow seems almost identical to the language about The Magic Way -- about how it's a real dive into Tamariz's mind, and how it's a better way to "think about magic" and such. Of course, the two books are separated in authorship by approximately 3 decades. Would it be fair to say that the Magic Rainbow is an attempt to do something similar to The Magic Way, but with three more decades of experience to pack in? I currently have neither book (I do have Mnemonica, though, which I love). I'll probably end up getting both of these eventually, but it is amusing how similar the promotional copy for each of those two books are.

I cannot remember verbatim how he describes the idea for The Magic Rainbow but I remember it as perhaps being 'The final destination - where the spectator ends their journey'. I will have to have another look but have the feeling that this is in fact a third book in Juan's series. |

Is this price for the "Limited first run printing"? Does the first run printing have something special besides just being the first printing? If so, will subsequent printings be different in price? I'm not complaining about the price but the ad on Penguin just touts "Limited first run printing" without explaining anything about it.

I doubt the price will change.
The penguin ad to me reads as just get in quick or you may be waiting for the second or subsequent run. I can't see the price changing based only on a first run printing. Perhaps in 50 years it may make resale a lot higher though! |

It’s a method for trick/routine construction that can be applied to any magic trick. In The Magic Rainbow, Juan assumes that you’ve already created some highly deceptive effects. Then, it’s all about taking the audience to that special place, The Magic Rainbow, by creating amazement and genuine emotion. It’s all about Magic as a medium for artistic self expression.

Good to see The Magic Rainbow, finally available in English after a joint effort with Stephen Minch, Juan Tamariz and Penguin Magic and also Marty Kaplan (the proofreader I worked directly with), and a bunch of other people. Thanks to all who have eagerly asked about it for years. I wrote a new foreword. Enjoy!

Currently reading. I’ve always struggled with the presentation of magic but this book is helping to focus on the gift of wonder that magic should be. Truly a great work on the theory and presentation to make magic well....truly magical.
Best wishes John
