Hey guys! How goes it?
Just wanted to post an amusing little anecdote here. I was at work yesterday, and one of the staff brought in a half empty pack of cigarettes from the smoking area outside, and asked me if they were mine. I myself don't smoke, but I did know whom they belonged too, so I told the good samaritan (for want of a better term) that I would return them to the owner. Now, the filthy smoker, Mikey, knows I'm a magician and knows that recently I've been working on some pick pocketing routines. I haven't performed them, but I'm learning about the techniques and psychology involved. Anyway, I slipped his cigarettes into my pocket and went to find him. Found him sitting around in the warehouse, and asked him if he remembered talking to me earlier that morning. Then I asked if he'd felt me touch him at all. He looked at me as if I was some kind of freak. I reached into my pocket, and pulled out his cigarettes. He went nuts!! I didn't say a word, and just let him come up with his own conclusion. For the rest of the day he was telling everyone how I picked his pocket and he didn't notice. Now, as we can all clearly see, there was absolutely no magic (on my part) involved in what happened. Purely chance, and some mischief on my behalf. Although, this is probably the most astounding effect I have ever performed for Mikey, and I think he'll remember it for a while. The point is, if you can make your spectator believe in magic, the hard work is already done. -- Topher |

Just goes to prove "It's the EFFECT, not the method".
Magic is a vanishing Art.

Great post.
Maybe a better title for it would be “No Trick Required”. |

Yeah, good post, but agree with enriquez...after seeing title I was ready to launch my hellfire "you should be able to entertain with out magic before doing so with magic" speech...but seems out of place...
Definately take credit for everything. :stout: |

That story reminded me of something that happened here a few weeks ago.
My friend Frank has a magic bar, and I often get back there and do a set or two. Fun stuff. Well, one day, one of the spectators there was a lovely young lady who SOMEHOW kept getting the three of diamonds (or whatever). After Frank finished with her, I got back there, and yet again, that *** three kept popping up. Well, at one point, there was no one else there except she and I, and I thought I would have a little fun with her. While she was in the bathroom, I reached into Frank's card library and grabbed his entire stack of three of hearts, and put it on the bar where I had left my deck. She came back, and I did every kind of b.s. card effect you could think of, making it look like a Svengali, doing ambitious, you name it....because every single card, of course, was the same. Now, I was really going to tell her that I was just messing with her, but she was SO FLOORED, and never suspected a thing (after what we had done to her earlier with actual decks), that I just decided to let her stay amazed. The magic part, such as it was, was keeping a straight face. :-) Alan [Remember, Al G. is just another way of saying pond scum.]
