Hello everyone,
I wanted you to know about my new company, dedicated to selling my products and ideas to mentalists all over the world. Blurb below: Read My Mind Ltd, a new Mentalism company set up by Award-Wining Mindreader & Mentalist Looch. Read My Mind Ltd has been set up with a singular goal in mind, to provide performers the world over with the very best Mentalism products and releases from Looch. To coincide with the unveiling of Read My Mind Ltd there is a very special launch product, that I am sure will blow your mind. Back in 2010 Looch released his original 'AREA Book Test', a pocket sized creation designed for the strolling performer. Think - Participant mentally chooses a word, and you can immediately begin revealing the word without any pumping! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AREA introduced two incredible new principles, the 'Master Word Principle' (MWP) and the 'Blagging' principle. These two principles created the illusion that the performer could have anyone mentally select a word from a book and instantly began revealing specific details about that word without seemingly resorting to any kind of fishing process. AREA received astonishing reviews and sold out. It has long been out of print and copies of AREA often change hands on the secondhand market at well over double the original price. With recent developments in the print world Looch has redesigned the 'AREA Book Test' and created an even more compact and portable weapon of destruction. At launch, there are 2 versions available. The regular edition which consists of a single book (Homemade Problems cover) and the limited edition set (of 250) that contains 2 cover variants (Homemade Problems & Passage of the Past) For more information, and to purchase AREA Nano please visit: www.readmymind.co.uk Thank you & hope you have a wonderful festive period. Looch

AREA has to be one of my most used booktests, although not in the conventional way.
And, knowing the quality and thinking behind Looch's effects and mentalism, I wish him and his new company every success. However, two questions about the new AREA booktest. Given it is a small size, what size is the font? And is the text and key words in the new format, the same as in the original? Neil |

I'll field this one Neil since the font choice was my decision - the font is 8pt Bell Gothic, and I chose that for a very specific reason. Looch was keen to have the book be as small as useably useful and the pages to still feel dense with text but be very readable. We talked about it for a long time, ways to handle this - not only does the text need to be quite small, but the book is often used in show conditions, so that means not always great light available, especially since the new format means it can be used ANYWHERE. Eventually I picked Bell Gothic - this is a font that was designed on commission by AT&T for their phone books in the US, and it was created with a very specific purpose in mind : to be as readable as possible in small sizes and less than ideal conditions. It has a tall x-height, clear ascenders, the works, it is very legible and the book is easily readable even in middling lighting conditions. This is important because the book is comically small!
The text and keywords are the same though IIRC, if you put the work in to the first AREA it is all still applicable with the Nano books - Looch was keen that existing users be able to easily move across to the new format. Phill

Are the pages of the books stitched in or glued in, I was thinking if going to be used extensively I would prefer them stitched, also the two book version is there a routine that uses the 2 books or just there to allow a free choice of book to be made by spectator?

This looks great. Portable pocket sized and user friendly. Not to be picky but is there a typo on the front cover of Homemade Problems? I would echo Daren's questions as well.

The original Area booktest was a thing of beauty. I'm sure this will have the same wonderful attention to detail as the original.

The only company that could produce stitched miniatures are based in China and have a minimum order of 10,000 units, which isn't feasible for this kind of release. The Ltd Ed set has 2 versions of the book, both identical except the cover and inners. I use just one book at a time and don't give participants any choice. I tend to use the variant cover for repeat audiences, I do prefer the blue cover for weddings as it have more of a 'Chick Lit' style aesthetic. Hope that helps Looch

Please point out this typo. This is a book designed and produced in the UK and we cannot see any typos

I can only assume they are referring to homemade or home-made. Both are correct in British and American English. Home-made is probably the more popular spelling in British English where as homemade is more popular in American.

'Probably refers to 'A match pair of short stories'
That doesn't 'appear' to make sense unless I miss the meaning. |

A match pair of something is a woodworking term (at least it was when I learnt it at school in CDT) for when you basically cut a block of wood in two and make two identical items from them in such a way that the woodgrain matches in a mirror effect. So you would get a match pair of serving spoons or shotguns or tool handles or whatever.

When I worked in a recording studio years ago we spoke about a 'matched pair' of microphones. But I must admit I've never heard the term 'a match pair'.

I didn't catch the "match" pair until it was pointed out. After Phil's post I looked it up. Could not find it except as "matched pair".. But I just don't think it's really going to matter. If someone finds it odd, you can work around it with a remark about "some editor is gonna catch hell about that" and move along. Still looks like a thing of beauty.

Yeah 'match' is wrong
And having to excuse something [from the front cover] - yikes Maybe say they are translated traditional short stories from xxxxx That way any clunky text - or any of the other mistakes [if the cover has one - I would guess there will be others in the book] - are easy to pass off as down to translation 'This is a match pair of short stories' - if English wasn't your first language I can see that being a very plausible sentence |
