Spectre deserves the bizarre effect of the DECADE because it is unlike anything ever available and offers so much potential. It is great as a stand alone routine, or with Dopps, but most importantly, as the bibliomacy reading tool. For years I have offered to the corporate market palmistry, tarot card reading, handwriting analysis and crystal ball gazing, but now, I am able to offer something nobody else can offer.
For the year of 2016 I recommend: 1. Seven Sins by M R Darkness and Sudo Nimh. The Seven Sins is a classic of bizarre first offered by Brother Shadow, whose Pick a Sin entertained at the Invocationals decades ago. Over the years others have offered their own versions on the theme, including wonderful bits by David Parr, Tony Chris, Bill Cushman, Walt Anthony, and most recently Christopher Dearman. This particular set of Seven Sins are seven wooden plaques depicting the classic images designed by 1618 Baroque Printmaker Jacques Callot. While the instructions include a novel expunging of a chosen sin, the props offer a lot of possibilities to the imaginative bizarrist, and there are already some great ideas on the online forum. 2. The Roxanne Effect by Brynmore. For years I have used this principle, and wrote about my presentation in my book Raising the Dead for Fun & Profit. Bryn however has shown more light (so to speak) on the principle than ever before, making it easier than ever to master this wonderful gaffless séance technique that really needs to be in every medium’s repertoire. 3. Death Comes Knocking Dark Lord version by Outlaw Effects. I realize this has been out for a while now, but I picked one up early this year because the exact knocker is on one of the haunted houses on the Acworth Ghost Tour in my area (at an estate now called Cedar Plantation). I ordered it early this year not certain I would have it in time for the Halloween season, but it arrived quicker than I anticipated, and Rick was a delight to work with. The prop works like magic. In fact, off season I have it on display in my game room and have had a great deal of fun with it even when not officially performing but just shooting pool with visitors. 4. Pearls of the Passed, by Aiden Sinclair. This is without a doubt the perfect bizarre story for this premise (and a true story; her biography is in my library), and an instant classic of bizarre magick. Aiden performed this at Dragon Con this year, and I understand that he killed with it. 5. Vede Retro Satana. How can you go wrong with a creepy exorcism ritual? The props are beautiful, and I found the ideal magnifying glass to compliment the set. While I have not yet performed this, I hope to incorporate it into one of my favorite routines. |

Thank you Perkins for adding Ragdale House Affair - Stephen Young on the list. I voted too quickly and I was hoping somebody is going to vote for it. It is definitely a great effect and I am already waiting for the follow up.

Hi All,
I've been lurking here for many months and have finally got myself an email address that isn't blocked for registration! It's a hard, hard choice, but my favourite purchases for the year would have to be: The Faerie Shilling (Prof BC/Lebanon Circle) Lillian's Diary (Gemini Artifacts) Book of Revelations (Lebanon Circle) The Big Black Book (Black Hart) Glad to be able to join in the discussions at last! |

- White Star (Jim Critchlow) I love this!
- Boston Daily Globe 1912 (people get goosebumps when I show it to them after the White Star grouping) - Lubor Lens/Reality Twister (Paul Harris) - I spin a story about getting the lens from the estate of a scientist...and the pen melts - Does buying spoons at thrift stores count? I spin a story about getting the spoon from the estate of a person who disappeared...and the spoon bends (which I give out as a memento of a mysterious experience - not everyone will take it!) - Mind, Myth and Magic (T.A. Waters)

A while back I purchased by Edward Kelley's THE PHILOSOPHER STONE A Facsimile Rosicrucian Alchemist Manuscript On the Philosophers Stone leather bound, limited edition from Miskatonic books. The book contains some very nice photo reprints of some works on Kelley including the companion of Dr. John Dee that came from an unpublished handwritten notebook circa 1860. The work reflects the secret alchemist traditions of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia and the Hermetic Society of the Golden Dawn which is interesting. Plus a few other sections on some very interesting and thought provoking materiel from old cursive hand written manuscripts. I mention cursive because to some of the younger magi here this will look more like hieroglyphics since its no longer taught in most of the schools. If you saw the recent study on cursive its now a secret language that less and less people can read since everything is now printed type. Which is another topic but interesting. The book mentioned of above does not contain tricks but is a great read for any Kelley researcher. Miskatonic books is a great retail seller of this type of hard to find works on Magick for the researcher and a US distributor for many expensive to ship over seas works form certain publishers.
While the above book purchase may not be my top pick for the year it's in the top five purchase on my related arts list. |

Thanks to everyone who has voted for The Krampus Box! I've only sold 25 copies and it's not even been officially released to that's pretty good going!

Only 10 days to go...
This thread is a way to celebrate creation, to thanks people who inspired and stimulated you this year. It is great to see all the diversity so far. I did not know some of the effects you voted for and this thread is also a good way to learn about new effects you were not aware. It is hard to choose , it was a great year. Vote if you have not voted yet. The winner that you choose will receive for the first time a great Trophy from Prof BC and a small Australian surprise (not a scroll... I prefer to precise just before you ask me...). Who is going to receive them this year? What is your 5 favourite bizarre purchase in 2016? |
