You know, I'm not into this kind of magic usually but this is something really cool to do for my grand kids. Really nice. And the thing is I won't mind screwing up in practice, I luv Ferreros chocolates LOL. Defiantly picking this up

I wonder if this is suitable for a strolling gig such as a restaurant. If it can be worked in and out between effects easily. I'm in .

Nice thinking on this concept. But I don't see the relevancy of a red silk turning into a gold foil wrapped chocolate.
Maybe using a brown and gold silk would work for me. There is a similar effect where a green silk changes into a frog. Regardless, nice idea on this and will probably pick it up.

I understand your point but I don't recall ever seeing a white silk used with the Silk to Egg. I think you're overthinking it IMO.

While it is perfectly fine for any color silk to turn into chocolate, maybe using a gold color silk and "wadding it into a ball" might be a good idea. I have been thinking of a different routine while waiting for this to arrive. Maybe it will go something like this: Take out your cell phone (with a little gimmick) and say: "Do any of you have the new app that allows you to order stuff from your cell phone? I had a craving for chocolate, and was searching on this new site called "order direct" Show a photo on your cell phone of a red silk with a single chocolate on top. Have a device loaded and concealed in your left hand to make a silk appear from the cell phone (I think it's called silk through cell phone. You will need to modify the handling and perhaps the gimmick a bit to make it "silk appears from cell phone"). As you do this, say: "All I have to do is press this button and it is delivered immediately" Pull the silk from the phone. Look into the phone as if trying to figure out what happened to the chocolate. Put the phone and gimmick into your pocket and come out with the chocolate gimmick palmed. Push the silk into the fist and do something magical to turn it into chocolate. Produce the chocolate. "Ah, there we go, chocolate sweet chocolate." Start to unwrap it as you casually show both hands empty. Smell the chocolate as if you are about to eat it. Pause, look up at the audience as if guilty about eating it in front of them. "Oh, that wouldn't be nice of me to eat this in front of you." Turn around as you say: "I'll eat it behind my back." Turn back around, still only holding the single chocolate and say: "I couldn't do that." Pretend to lick the exposed chocolate and turn your body as you extend your hand holding the chocolate as if to offer it to someone as you say: "Would you like some?" As you pretend to hand it out, your body is turned sideways a bit. Steal a real chocolate from your pocket or wherever you have it hidden (I use a little compartment on the underside of my jacket). Of course, they are going to decline since you just apparently licked it. Bring your hands together and hold the chocolate gimmick in front of the real chocolate and make one chocolate turn into two and hand the real chocolate to the audience member as you say: “Here, one for me, and one for you.” kj |

BTW, In working out the details, I realize that the gimmick to make the silk appear from the phone would need to be significantly different from the "silk through cell phone" gimmick. I'm going to work on this. If anyone else has any interest in this, pm me.

I think davidpaul$ is on to something, today's audience is a bit different and dare I say, smarter. therefore we need to "over-think" some times. I too was thinking to use tissue paper from the party store or something along those lines, in the end, it is a personal preference, neither way is wrong.

>>>Wasn't there a peel off sticker on the egg the same color as the silk????? Relevancy???? I think so. Or am I overthinking?<<< Well, you're referring to the Sucker Silk to Egg so yes the sticker should obviously be the same color as the silk. But that's a different effect than this, although I suppose you could do it with a pseudo explanation if you wanted. Always difficult to tell on a forum but you seem a bit irritated so let me state that I in no way think your suggestion is a bad one, I just feel it's unnecessary. But you should definitely do what you feel is best and I do believe small details can make a difference. My only point was that I wouldn't avoid doing it altogether for that reason alone. Also, I think that these types of chocolates are available now in red foil wrappers for Valentine's Day, so maybe stock up while you can. |

I just received this and I am very excited about it. Here are my brief thoughts:
The quality of the gimmick is superb. With good care, it could last a lifetime. The online instructions are excellent. He covers a wide variety of ways to handle this as well as routine ideas. It is very thorough. Sean's English, while clearly not his first language, is very good. The only thing I didn't like about the video was the background music was a bit too loud. I think it would have been better if the background music were faded out or WAY down. I still had no problem following the instruction, but it was just a bit distracting. He covered how to set up, how to use real chocolates and the gimmick, how to switch, suggested patter ideas, the whole nine yards. The bonus comedy effect was fun to watch, and I'm sure some will perform it, but others won't. Let's just say it is in the category of "geek" magic. After watching the explanation, I have modified my thinking on how I am going to structure my routine. I will be performing for a senior center soon and I am going to do this routine and give out free candy with each performance. However, in the instruction he covers a wide variety of ways to perform, including one where you don't unwrap the wrapper. While it sells the effect more to open the wrapper and show the chocolate, he also teaches handlings where you don't unwrap the candy and you do a switch and hand out a real candy. That also really sells it, and you don't have to re-prepare the gimmick each time. I actually really like his patter more than what I was thinking of, and I will likely include some of his very humorous patter. One suggested patter he has is probably geared toward a younger audience and is very funny, but I'm going to use some of this patter with the senior audience and I think they will get an even bigger kick out of it. One word of caution: The link to the explanation video is in tiny print on the inside flap of the tiny box. It took me a while to find it. So, in summary, I am loving this! I may not ever do the silk in egg again. Highly recommended! KJ |
