Title: Any Shuffled Deck
Creator: Liam Montier Publisher: Big Blind Media MSRP: $ 30 Skill Level: all DVD Run time: 10 tricks and each one is taught between 6 and 8 minutes Manufacture's write up: This is the ULTIMATE collection of totally impromptu, any shuffled deck in use, self-working card tricks ever! Every single routine featured can be done from a borrowed shuffled deck, with no sleight of hand or prior setup needed. Someone hands you a deck, and you'll be ready to fry their minds with TEN incredible self-working miracles. And these are NOT transparent, underwhelming tricks. Seriously impressive, reputation making magic. Self-working these routines may be, but they will still make you look like a card magic ninja! EVERY routine starts from a borrowed, shuffled deck in use. Zero sleight of hand required. Use ANY deck of cards. Be ready to perform anywhere, any time with any deck. What tricks are taught on the DVD? Interstellar OOTW Mates Gemini Location Silly Questions Wheel of Fortune Jack's Poker Salto Triumph - a self working triumph effect? Worth the price of the DVD Last to Turn Up Invisible Dice One Over the Eight My two cents: "You can’t go wrong with the combination of Big Blind Media and Liam Montier. Every magician needs a strong repertoire of self working effects and this DVD delivers." Review video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2U7jSWED1Y |

I didn't think much to it. Their first release of self workers was excellent and full of great material. This one not so much.

Actually, there are some good effects in this DVD. What is the name of his first DVD release?

The fact that you can use any shuffled deck is what sets this one apart from the others.
Many of the best self-working effects require a fairly elaborate set-up or stack. So this in a way almost puts them in the same category as a gimmicked deck effect at least from the standpoint that you have to be carrying the arranged deck ready to go and generally have to open with it in order to do the effect, etc. IOW, they are not in the impromptu category. This DVD consists of all impromptu FASDIU effects. So yes, some of the effects are not quite as strong as others because of that requirement but I think Liam and the team did an excellent job in including some really good ones on this DVD and I believe it does fill a void from many of the other releases in the last couple years along these same lines. |

Shuffled AND self working is too limiting as far as this release goes and make it process heavy. What did you see as a strong effect on this DVD?

Talk about "bang for your buck". Really, DVD's on self-working card tricks are about as superfluous as a fridge on the north pole. It's a typical "me too" product, designed to cash in on the new lazy generation of DVD consumers with too much money on their hands, and nothing more. |

Many magicians are hobbyists (in fact, the vast majority) and are not lazy. They just have busy lives and prefer to spend some of their little free time with family and not isolated away practicing card sleights. Don't begrudge everyone who hasn't devoted their entire lives to the art, or the creators and dealers who put out items you feel are unnecessary. As far as filling a void, I was referring to the recent DVD's that focus primarily on the deck being set up. This DVD requires no prior set up of the deck at all. That's all I meant. Sorry if I offended you. |
