Hello everyone,
Today, I'm announcing my newest offering to the mentalism community, titled, "The Grey Area", and it may just be the most important book that I've written! "The Grey Area" opens with three, in-depth essays on the topics of creating and presenting mentalism that feels and looks like the real thing. It also teaches a total of eight routines that showcase and practice the ideals set forth in those opening chapters. Nearly every routine is impromptu and prop-less, ready to go at any time. Contents: "There Are No New Effects!" - This essay approaches the "no new effects" mindset, and offers Matt's personal tips and tricks to motivate any performer to create and develop brand new routines. "Providing Purpose" - As it sounds, this essay covers the topic of creating mentalism and magic effects that have a real purpose. It expounds upon the thoughts of a true thought reader, and how they might truly use their abilities in the real world. "The Art of Creating" - This final essay teaches the approaches and processes that Matt goes through in order to create his effects. This chapter is overflowing with tips and ideas to boost and enhance your creative process. The Lies We Tell - An impromptu, bold approach to the liar and truth teller plot, without the use of logic puzzles, NLP eye accessing cues, guessing, dual reality, or any other classic method. The performer asks simple questions, and the group answers them. The participants can even choose to answer only in their mind, and you will always know who the liar is. Witchhand - This effect takes the concept from "The Lies We Tell" and applies it to a type of "which hand" effect. A person hides an object in their fist, while the rest of the group makes empty fists. You are then able to instantly identify who is holding the object, with no questions asked! The concept can also be used to present a more classic "which hand" effect. Metal Detector - The performer places a coin, a key, and a ring on the table. Three spectators each hide one object in their fist. The performer then becomes a human metal detector, and is able to correctly identify who is holding which metal object. No magnets or gimmicks are used. Motor Skills - We remove a participant's ability to write or draw, and we're then able to guess their word or drawing based on the scribbles that they've made. Nameless - The mind reader uses his abilities to get himself out of an awkward situation, and is able to guess a random participant's name. Profit 2.0 - This is an impromptu method to perform a version of my original "Profit" effect. The performer has a spectator count a stack of dollar bills, and is then able to swindle them out of a LOT more cash! Targeting: An Approach to Psychological Forces - As described in the title, this is a reliable approach to using psychological forces in a close-up or stage environment. Force Field - From the comfort of the stage, the performer is able to read the minds of audience members standing from their seats. It almost looks like the "Oracle Act", except we're reading direct thoughts that have never been written down or spoken aloud. We then take the effect further with TWO kicker endings. This is a showstopper, and as such, is best used as a closer to a stage show. "The Grey Area" is a 47 page PDF manuscript. The price is $34.95, sent through PayPal to mattmello88@gmail.com Please include your ACTIVE email address with your purchase. Thank you! Matt Mello |

Okay, you all know what Matt Mello releases something, I'm going to be close by to chime in with my thoughts.
The three essays are really fantastic. They really let the reader in on a lot of Matt's creative process. Each essay is not only easy to understand, they each put out some very thought provoking statements which very well may have you questioning your own performances. After reading these essays, I will be going back through my show attempting to integrate some of these thoughts into my own performance. He also teaches a great way to get your creative juices flowing. I can see a lot of Matt in these essays. You can tell he practices what he preaches. "The Lies We Tell" - This is a bold, but very effective lie detection routine which is about as fair as it gets. There aren't any tricky moments. Everyone simple answers some random questions (they can be anything), and the performer knows who is lying. It is really smart thinking. Don't let the simplicity scare you off. "Witchhand" - This is really just a different presentational angle for the previous method. It will be every bit as clean as the last, but I do prefer the previous presentation to this one. It just hits a little stronger. "Metal Detector" - Metal Detector takes the method used in the previous two effects and takes it one step further to allow you to receive another piece of information from the spectators. It is really pushing the boundaries in a good way. It shows just how much this method is capable of. "Motor Skills" - This is a really simple routine, but man it is so powerful. It truly appears like the spectators have forgotten how to write, and you get a hit by telling them what they were trying to write. It is fantastic. You will have it mastered within minutes of reading. Two methods are provided and both have their own value. I believe I'll be performing the first one. I think this would also fit in great with a "100 Monkeys" routine (for the Jerx Volume 1 owners... you know what I would use.) "Nameless" - I must admit, I had read this from Matt before and didn't quite "get it." Having read this particular write up, I totally get it and I love it. Again, it's Matt's simple and bold thinking being put into action in a great way. If you could really read minds and you had this particular situation happen, this is absolutely how you'd get out of it. I will be incorporating this into my stage shows when I have multiple participants on stage. You get a free mind reading hit with absolutely no extra work. It's hard to pass that up. DON'T OVERLOOK THIS ONE. "Profit 2.0" - This is a great effect to lead up to Matt's "Profit" effect from his "Psycho Logical" manuscript. It takes a well known method and makes it into something which makes sense and has purpose. I really like the thinking with this one. Again, it's simple, but the effect is so very strong. It really looks as clean as possible. "Targeting" - This is a way to make a psychological force closer to 100%. Matt covers a few forces but the concept could be applied to many psychological forces. This is probably my least favorite piece in the book, purely because of my performing aesthetic. Others will rave about this. It doesn't match what I aim for in my performances, but it will have value for many people, especially in close up situations or performing for a smaller group. "Force Field" - This is the highlight of the book. What an INCREDIBLE demonstration of mind reading. The performer reads three peoples' thoughts from their seats without them ever coming on stage or selecting from a list or anything of the sort. This is some of Matt's best thinking. It looks clean, it looks pure, and you can even end with it being a prediction of what each person will JUST THINK OF. They never write anything down, say anything out loud, pick from a list, nothing! They just think of something, and you tell them what it is. It's really that clean. This really only works in a stage environment. It's not intended for close up. Matt covers three methods for this. The first method is great, but there is one part which doesn't fit my aesthetic so I won't be using it. The third method is the easiest and quickest, but my least favorite of the three. The one I will actually be using is the second version. Method two has an added effect where a random audience member actually predicts the three people's random thoughts from the very beginning of the show. I love this one. After reading, I sent Matt some thoughts I had one this one (which he has included in the PDF.) I think anyone that sees this routine will be blown away and will leave talking about how incredible this trick is. For that reason, it practically HAS to be a closer. I love love LOVE this. You will too. For less than $35, you are getting some really top notch material from Matt. Everything in the book is well written, easy to follow, easy to do, gimmick-free, and full of entertainment value. This is a very under priced piece of work. Most creators now days would charge $150 for a book of this caliber. So get it before Matt realizes he could be making way more money off of this release! Madison |

Thanks, as always, for your incredibly thorough review, Madison!
I'm happy to hear that the content I covered in those essays have you reconsidering certain thoughts about your show and performance. In my opinion, I think the essays alone are worth the price of this book. For the amount of material that I've created using the thoughts contained in those chapters, they have been invaluable. I'm also very pleased to know that the new write-up for "Nameless" has sparked your interest, and that you enjoyed the bulk of the material presented. A creator can't hope for anything more! |

Hey guys,
I just wanted to mention to any purchasers to please check your spam folder for "The Grey Area" PDF. I've received a couple of emails that they never received it, but later found the PDF in their spam folder. It's one my worst fears that people will pay for something, and then think that I never sent them anything. I ALWAYS respond. And just a friendly reminder, please provide your current email address in your PayPal message. Thanks! Matt |

Matt F'n Mello...
How do you always manage to seriously push out gold?! I'm planning a video review on this once I have the availability and at the same time... IT'S NOT NEEDED! For $34.95 you're practically getting an entire book full of brilliant ideas for next to nothing! These effects and ideas are: -Impromptu propless material (though there are also idea for using gimmicks and props if you want)! -Involve multiple people AND use the people as the props (the usual problem propless zero compromise mentalism)! -You're getting some real essays that discuss a few really interesting thought on creativity as well as answering the big WHY! Check Grey Area out, it's definitely worth more than the admission price and the material only really requires you to have the ability to be ENGAGING! XX, -Jakob |

I just got this quick quote in from Luca Volpe: "I love Matt's thinking, and in this PDF you will find very useful information on how to take your effects to the next level. Also, you will find routines and ideas that you can perform at anytime with nothing prepared."

And is "force field" REALLY as clean as think of something and. Then you can say it?
Also, can you throw balls out to ppl and the choice of the three participants be completely random or do you have to select them yourself?? Thanks Sleepy😴 |

Hey Sleepy,
"Motor Skills" and "Force Field" are surefire. "Force Field" isn't real mind reading, so there is a process involved, but it's simple and powerful. I actually teach three different variations of the main concept, two of which involve tossing out paper balls to select participant's. The third version is the most direct approach to this effect. If you perform the third variation of "Force Field", which I refer to in the PDF as the "streamlined" version, you could very easily perform the entire routine in a few minutes. This includes tossing out a paper ball to select the participants, our presentation of reading their minds from the sage, as well as the two extra revelations.
Depending on your personal presentation and showmanship, you could stretch it to the full five minutes. |

Initially I thought 'The lies we tell' was a really clever idea but as I carried on reading it was clear Matts thinking behind this makes it a solid and workable routine. I have had some ideas for this which I am going to share with Matt soon. I am performing at my residency this evening and I will be performing this.
'Nameless' is an original idea, I will not over look this and I will use it this evening. 'Force field' is Very good. It's also hugely interactive and a routine which will engage everybody watching. I will give honest feedback on Nameless and The lies we tell. Joel.
