Hey everyone, hope this is OK to post here.

I'm generally not new to magic, but don't have enough experience to call myself anything more than an amateur. I've practiced on and off for a few years mainly in the area of card magic. I've never really gotten myself into a consistent groove with practice, what with life getting in the way, moving all the time, jobs and everything else.

Anyway, in recent years I've gotten to a place in my life where I'd really love to revisit my passion for magic. I am 28 years old, self employed and I have the luxury of time on my side.

I was wondering if there are any recommendations on mentors / coaches that may be available for private mentorship in the area of mentalism? (I'm based in the UK but am open to working over Skype calls etc)

PS. This isn't something I'm pursuing to help me build a career, or make money. I just love magic, and I am looking to finally dive into something I've been passionate about my entire life, with some solid guidance and mentorship by my side to help on the way.

Here is a link to another thread already on the Café' about the same subject matter. The response from D.Oslund is great, and also one from Pop Hayden.

I know that Bob Cassidy offers teaching/advice... not sure if he does thru skype and also Eugene Burger has a link on his website for skype sessions.

Don't we all Ajay... ddoonntt wee allllll Smile.

Try to find someone who you can provide value to, and maybe they will see you are worth their time as well. Go to a theatre and help them set up, let the magician see you are there, ask them if they need a hand.... do it over and over until said magician sees you are serious about learning and offers to help you. That is just one approach, one which I believe may bring a heavily rewarding sense of accomplishment. -You are working for help, you are learning skills, you are learning how to network, you are helping others, it's an invaluable experience.

Try to connect with others on this forum you see live around you, or other forums (just be careful it is the internet.) Other friends who practice magic are nice to have, as you can pitch ideas off each other, perform for each other, etc.

You could also look to join some of the IBM/Magician groups on these forums or around where you live. Or go to some of the magic shops and talk to them, see if they can offer help or know anyone that can.

Or as friend suggested above, you can straight pay someone to teach you.

For the price you will pay for private lessons, you may want to check out a couple of the penguin live lectures from some of your favorite mentalists. Most of them provide 3 to 5 hours of performance, explanations, presentation, tips and advice for only 30 bucks. Also at the end of the lectures there is usually a Q and A segment that lasts about a half hour that is filled with solid advice. 30 dollars for advice from the big names in magic and mentalism. Best deal in magic in my opinion. Almost like having a personal mentor but way cheaper.
