I am not for it but they say it's coming back into fashion.

That would depend on which family member you were talking about. Take my mother in law if you please.

The world is full of evil, and pain, and lies, and death.
You can't hide from it; you can only face it. The question is, when you do, what do you become?

There are many things one can say against torture and one of them is that is pointless. Even expert torturers have said it does not work. Their argument that one must fight fire with fire and at the same time ague they must use water to do so is a nice bit of double think, straight out of the ministry of love. Speaking of double think, after the Second World War, Japanese military officials who had used water torture techniques on allied troops were successfully prosecuted – by the Americans. Legal torture at least in one sense is even worse than criminal torture, as it is more insidious when condoned by the law.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

I guess when Buckley was kidnapped, the "major CIA concern" must have been that he'd get beer and cigarettes.

There are many reasons we should not use torture. It not working isn't one of them.

There are many things they about say against torture: it’s cruel, inhumane, traumatic and likely to lead to global outrage and revenge attacks. Moreover, they say, the accuracy of information obtained through it is so poor, that it’s completely unreliable. Don’t just take it from me. A Khmer Rouge, Kang Kek Lew, was accused, and later convicted by a UN war crimes tribunal of being the head of an interrogation centre known as S-21, where over 12,000 people were tortured and killed. During his trial, he was asked whether he believed that the information he obtained through torture was accurate. He unequivocally responded that he did not. His orders were to reveal enemy networks. His victims would name anyone they could think of, just to put an end to the suffering. One young westerner named Colonel Sanders as his alleged superior in the CIA. Some prisoners confessed to being simultaneously agents of the CIA and the KGB.

Seems like all this torture discussion is about clandestine operations. What about the criminal who kidnapped a child and has said child somewhere with only a certain amount of food and or air in order to survive. Is torture an option then, when it can be used at once to find out whether the information is valid or not in order to save a life?
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000
