If you want to protect a genius app then you do not produce ever an app for Android. This will be the case here. If you want to know what happens all the time due to Android ask Greg Rostami.... he might have decided differently in the past if he would have known what happens to him all the time. Jan

Sorry to hear - I will not buy an iPhone just to do one magic trick...

It's a shame. Im sorry what has happened to Greg Rostami, I purchased a couple of his effects and they are great. But you would never catch me using and iphone and I'm with espmagic, I will not be buying an iphone for a couple of tricks, especially when a lot of them have a life shelf due to slight changes to the iphone.

I certainly can't predict the future and see if Apple's iOS updates will break any of my apps down the line. That being said, I have made 10 apps on the App Store over 4 years and each of them function perfectly even now.

I also can't imagine that WikiTest will be an exception - I for one have been using it for the last 4 years and have kept adding features and updating it even before release.

Plus, looking at the version history of my other apps (tap "version history" when viewing the app in the App Store:

Earworm was released over two years ago and has had many updates since and still works perfectly.
https://appsto.re/gb/tkZ04.i

MagicWebFX was released around 3 years ago and also has had many updates with various new features and iOS 10 support. It also works perfectly.
https://appsto.re/gb/9218W.i

These aren't just updates to keep them working, but new features, new input methods and new technologies. MagicWebFX, for example, was released in 2014 but now supports the latest iPhone features like notification widgets, 3D Touch and more.

I'm not trying to convince you to switch to iPhone of course, but merely tell you that I do try to not only keep my apps working, but to keep them updated and relevant.

Appreciate that you keep your software working, but (being ignorant) I do not understand why Android is something you would not deal with. It is not about owning/not owning a magnificent effect, it's about not owning (!) an iPhone...

I don't want to hijack this thread.
I just wanted to address Jan's comment and clear up any misunderstanding.

The issue that Jan is referring to is piracy.
There's a LOT more piracy on Android devices than iOS.

I will continue to develop all of my apps for both iOS and Android.

In our upcoming products we will have tough anti-piracy technology to dramatically reduce this problem.

Now back to the main topic of this thread ...

Just took the plunge on this yesterday.
I think it's going to be a hard hitter from the looks of it.
I do wish there were video explanations, as I seem to be losing brain cells rapidly..
The directions are fine though, I'm just spoiled from the I Unlock Your Mind app (by Myke Phillips).
I wouldn't personally do more then any one phone effect to the same group.
But, having Wiki, and IUYM, is a lot of entertainment you'll have on you.
Up until IUYM, I was 100% against "tech mentalism".
But these two are just that good.
(IUYM from personal experience, and Wiki on faith Smile )

looking forward to working with this.
And, if you haven't yet, give IUYM a look.
People mention that effect like wildfire. Maybe because of all the FBI phone happenings in the news.
Maybe a bunch of people super protective of anyone seeing their porn.
Whatever. They leave all giddy and shocked.
That's about good enough for me.

I'm curious whether you believe that the piracy that is more prevalent on Android actually affects your sales. Are the people who steal actually people who would have bought otherwise?

I suspect not. Or at least not to such a degree that it makes sense to ignore the Android market (given that there are now more Android than iOS users). I'd like to hear your thoughts though.

And regardless, I can appreciate the emotional impact that seeing *anyone* rip off your hard work has. I've had a couple of my own magic ideas marketed by other magicians with no attribution (and certainly no compensation).

It's a brilliant app, but the misdirection has to be good. I performed it a couple of times and realised that patter has to be meaningful, otherwise "screen mirroring" is the spectators wild guess!

REVIEW: WikiTest by Marc Kerstein
RATING: 10 out of 10!

FULL REVIEW: I am very sorry to write this review.

It is perhaps the most amazing mentalism effect (described as “a modern book test that uses a borrowed smartphone”) that can be done with an iPhone that I have seen. I am *** sorry to tell you all about it. Marc Kerstein has created the mother of all mentalism effects using the MOABT as inspiration and creating an app that lets you travel with a show stopping effect at all times. Alas, because my desire to write overwhelms my selfish desire to keep this a secret, I tell you all that this app, which is not inexpensive, is astoundingly worthwhile.

The app, which can be bought on iTunes, costs $65. “No way am I spending that much money on a phone effect” I thought until I saw a performance on the Wizard Product Review. Because of that and the repeated declaration by many Magic Café users that WikiTest should be the Trick of The Year, I took the plunge. I am now a mindreading genius anytime and anywhere. Dear Marc Kerstein, please raise the price of this app immediately!

So here is how it goes: You ask anyone take out their own phone and to google how many articles there are on the Wikipedia. You then have them pull up the information and find out the average number of words in each article. You then take your own phone and multiply the number of articles by the number of words and come to some astoundingly large number of words that can be found on the wikipedia – billions! You then instruct the spectator to visit the wikipedia page and search for anything that would be on the wikipedia. Then, you instruct them to focus on a word, but not one of those itty bitty small words like “the” or “and” and tell them to hide the screen from view. You can then instantly, if you wish, name what they looked up in the wikipedia and through the process of mindreading and focusing on your spectator, you announce the word that they thought of within the article.

Having performed this effect many times, I can say that your spectators will be absolutely floored. Some spectators have actually and honestly asked me if I am truly able to read minds. I am not kidding. It is just so outrageously convincing and impossible that there is no other explanation. This is especially true since you never touch the spectator’s phone.

The app is very well designed and cleverly hides the method in plain sight. There are several ways to perform this trick, but one is a clear winner. You will need to have some audience management skills to make sure things go as planned at the outset, but it is not tough stuff. Although you never need to touch the spectator’s phone, there have been a few instances where I found I needed to help them google and search for the information about the wikipedia to get things going.

The app comes with easy to follow written instructions and links to a heavily edited performance from David Blaine’s television show. I wish Kerstein would have included some video tutorials explaining the technical side of the app because I still was left with many questions and had to monkey around with the settings a bit.

Above I referenced the Wizard Product review performance, which leaves out a crucial step by not show the entire performance. Not seeing this missing part of the trick does not matter, ultimately, because your spectator won’t care or even take note of what was not shown. I wish it would have been shown to be more representative of what you are purchasing, but they are not sellers of the product.

I think we can expect updates to the app as time goes on and that will only make this effect even stronger and easier to accomplish.
The trick is not hard to perform at all and it is easy to learn. The more you do it and get comfortable with the method, the stronger the effect gets. While there are no real angles to be concerned about, you need to make sure that the spectators are looking in the right direction and not something you don’t want them to see. This is easily accomplished by following the basic script in the instructions.

A few comments about the ad copy on the iTunes app store. The thought of word is a random word, but it is not truly random because of some basic parameters that you set for the spectator. While it is claimed that there is “no memory work needed” I do not think that is accurate. While technically correct, in order to present this in the strongest way possible, you need to memorize a handful of things.

I am not sure that any spectator can do any digital backtracking. Certainly, most spectators won’t try and others may try and fail.

Like I said, this is phenomenal. Awesome. Superb. Please keep it a secret.

My biggest pet peeve is when they play word games like saying "borrow a smart phone" when you really mean "borrow an iphone, and not any other kind of smart phone..." More honesty in the descriptions please. If you are going to say "smart phone" instead of "iphone" then there should be a technical reason it could only be an iphone.

EDIT: Now I just read that it's not even "any word" ... this is getting pathetic. Describe the trick properly ffs. I have heard from people who have iphones that this is a good trick. So why do you need to advertise it with weasel words when you could say "iphone" and "virtually any word"????

Hmmm, not sure where your coming from here as the spectator can have ANY smartphone, as long as they are connected to the internet? With regard to the choice of a word, most book tests will ask the spectator to choose a "longer" type word, rather than "the, and, but etc". WikiTest is no different here - the only way you could get ANY word, would be to use another method in the routine such as a peek.

I use this as part of my stage show and it gets a fantastic reaction.

@TerrorInt - can you tell me where it is that I wrote “the spectator thinks of any word”?

Thanks!

<as the spectator can have ANY smartphone, as long as they are connected to the internet> - So, are you saying that it *can* be used on an Android device? Or still only iPhones?

@espmagic - Yes, the spectator can indeed use any modern smartphone as long as it has an internet connection, be it Android or otherwise.

If this *is* the case you need to change the link in your signature, since it says the compatibility is for i-devices only.

@espmagic - I think the misunderstanding is this: The spectator can have any phone. The magician, however, must have an iPhone with the WikiTest app installed.
