I posted this in Puzzle Me This, but did not get a response. Maybe someone here can help.
There is a No Memory Magic Square by Terry LaGerould in the Apocalypse vol 1-5 page 195. At the end of the trick, it is noted that there is a way to fold a square sheet of paper where you could write a single number then fold the paper without showing any of the other numbers. This is repeated until all 16 numbers are written an then you open up the paper to reveal the 4 x 4 magic square. Does anyone know if this was ever published? |

Hmmm...sounds interesting. I haven't seen that published, and I know Terry LaGerould quite well (I'm the author of his book Pasteboard Presentations II.)
Probably the best place to have posted this would be "Rectangles and pentagons and squares, oh my!" - the Magic Café's origami section (right below the puzzle section). It would likely be based on something like one of these layouts: http://nuonis.com/how-to-make-a-one-page-zine/ https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736......77f1.jpg https://makinghandmadebooks.blogspot.com......ook.html You'd have to pay attention to how to orient the numbers when you write them, however. The first 2 might be easier to remember when orienting the squares, but the final one would be easier to hold up and display at the end. On further searching, here's are 2 approaches that may also work better: https://fmitjavile.wordpress.com/2009/10/05/fold-a-map/ https://fmitjavile.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/image154.gif https://fmitjavile.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/figb-2.gif If the right fold could be found, this would be a great way to work with a manageable book during performance, and have a great big square to display for the finish! |

Don't know anything about At the Terry LaGerould effect, but in terms of writing numbers on a folded square of paper and then revealing the square at the end - check out either Harry Anderson's lecture notes or his Penguin Live lecture.

Scott, this looks like it could work.
Mr. Mindbender, I will look into your suggestions as Harry is the one who wrote about this first. Thank you both for your help! |

Geoff, I've posted a continuation of this discussion down in the origami forum: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=185
