I am looking for some nice handlings for 4 coins across that doesn't involve the Han Ping Chien move and doesn't use extra coins or shells.

Sankey's Mr. Clean coins across is really good, but its only 3 coins. You can adapt it pretty easily though.
Reality is a real killjoy.

Michael Ammar's intro to coin magic DVD has a very basic one on there.
Just out of curiousity, why do you want to avoid the Hang Pien Chien? |

Tallahassee Jumping coins uses only three coins, and is all done in the hands, the last coin going into a spectator's hand. From the NYCMS dvd set. Same routine but with three different coins is taught on my Penguin q lecture as the end to a CSB routine. Will also be taught in my upcoming At the Table lecture. The Specciolini Bros is a coins across done all in the hands (no table) where the last coin pops out of the mouth before going across. Taught on my Penguin Live lecture 2. Many more coins across on the NYCMS dvd volume one, and the L&L dvd Worlds Greatest Magic on Coins Across. Ahh, just reread ylur conditipns, 4 coins no extras. Never mind....
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Michael: don't mean to hijack this thread, but I learned your Wishing Well 4 coin production from the first Penguin Lecture. I love this routine so much--do you happen to have an updated handling on your second lecture? I remember reading this somewhere
Thanks |

@evikshin, I really don't like the way the move looks. Even when performed by professionals it makes me cringe.
@Jonathan Townsend Thank you. After your comment I had an idea of loading a coin under spectator's watch (or elsewhere) and reveal it as if it was the last coin jumping. |

I would encourage you to work out your handling of the HPC, trust me, I used to think the same when I started, it looks very unnatural unless you are the type of person who naturally slams coins on the tables.
Geoff Latta (God rest his soul) had a three coins across where he loads an extra coin into the specs hand via a very clever, natural HPC. see if you can find the routine, I forget the source. |

It just isn't a move for me. I don't like the way it looks, the way it feels and they way it flows. I would rather spend time polishing Giacomo Bertini's moves.
I also had an idea of turning the last "jump" into Tenkai Pennies effect, which is very clean and good looking. |

4 coins across, look no further than Bobo's coin magic book. Or the Richard Kaufman Coin Mag ic book or the David Roth book, which was written by Kaufman

If you don't like HPC, there's another move with a similar result whose name I can't recall... It looks like you throw the coins on the table in an X shape, and the usually roll a bit on the table.
I would argue that the HPC should be done like a sort of top change, covered by body movement and your eyes. If you do your HPC like Dani daOrtiz does his top change, there won't be anything suspicious nor cringe-worthy to see. P! |

For me, the question has always been "how to understand where the observer knows the object/coin to be, and build on that to create astonishment."
notice I do not say "believe to be." Whether or not HPC is the best way to achieve this depends on many factors other than 'thats' the way so-and-so did it." There are many techniques for having a coin be other than where the observer knows it to be. Select the one best for the flow of the routine, setting and expectations of the audience. I do not prefer HPC in most situations -- not because it is flawed, but because there are better techniques/sleights for those conditions. When you see or read an astonishing magic trick (effect from the audience perspective) do not ask, "where can I learn to copy that?" Instead, look at he end result and ask how you might achieve that feeling and impact with the audience of your choice? As to the OP - the header caught my eye since I have never used HPC in a coins across -- didn't know it was requirement.

There is another "one finger" adaptation promoted by Tom Crosbie on his 8-Bit Coin Magic video, though a pen is incorporated into the handling. The move is essentially the same though. Akira Fujii and Shoot Ogawa utilize the muscle pass to a similar end, and with that said, could the Sylvester Pitch suit your needs? |

First, to the OPs question:
The HPC is useful for the last coin. Being consistent leads to some style issues - understood - I happen to agree for reasons other than the sleight/deception. Using an extra, or final load/ surprise amounts to the same basic one-ahead strategy. Other approaches include the Fred Kaps squash and David Roth ruler method... Or if circumstances permit there's the item on the NYCS across DVD. ,😊

Thank you all.
The reason why I don't want to use extras/shells is because I am performing 4 coins across right after another effect, which I cleanly finish with 4 coins. I think I am settled on the idea of turning the last jump into Tenkai. Of course I will be dealing with only two coins and the other two will be held by spectator, but what can you do, a little sacrifice for the greater effect |
