Hi everyone,
I know the Tarbell course is 68 episodes in, at the time of writing this, but there is apparently still more to go. I started collecting the first few volumes (1-6) a few months ago to see what it was like and now I want them all, I really believe that I can learn so much from the course because most of the ideas Harlan already has taught me are not only just tricks but also foundation ideas and skills. Some of the basic moves in coin work I got from the Tarbell course and I have been in the game for a few years now and I basically feel like I need to "go back to school" for a lot of these. Basically in short, the Penguin course demonstrated to me that I am only a magician because I know the tricks I bought and not so much the theory behind the routines and the moves - is it too late to subscribe to the course considering I plan on purchasing all of them eventually? Much thanks Leo |

If they have nearly finished - wait until the end - as I am sure they will have a great bundle price once it's finished

If you are wanting to get them all eventually then subscribe right away. It is far more cost effective to buy the future ones through the subscription plan. I think it is one of the best deals in magic right now. Dan Harlan does a fantastic job with these lessons and even ones that you don't think you would be interested in tend to have valuable info of some sort.

Yes, there are 103 lessons total, and we have released Lesson 68. I've had to delay the release of Lesson 69 due to complications in getting costumes, props, and gimmicks made in time. It has been the most challenging lesson to date. We'll get back on track on March 24th. Then, lessons are released every other week. So, the previous post is correct. There's just under a year and a half to go.

Then in May, I will subscribe and then make my way backwards through the episodes I missed in the last 2 years. I just hope on completion, the lessons come in some kind of package deal that will make back dating less painful.
Much thanks Mr Harlan and others. |

If it works out cheaper to buy a package deal at the end. Then that would be a real kick in the teeth to alll the long time subscribers.

Look at all the people who bought L&L videos for top dollar on VHS then rebought them on dvd when the vhs's wore out. Now they practically give them away every other month or so with "whatever deal is happening now". BBM did a similar thing recently with their "Projects" series. I bought most of them one at a time as they came out, they were pretty decent projects and well taught and produced. I am not unhappy with them - just the fact that they now sell an "Essentials" compilation of 8 dvds (plus a free gift of another dvd) for (currently $79.00 - about what I paid for 2 1/2 maybe). These haven't been out near as long as the L&L stuff but it just seems that this is what companies must do once that "new car smell" wears off. It would not surprise me a bit to see the Tarbell vids in "constant Cool-Box rotation" once complete or a "better than subscription price" for a "full - one time purchase".

I've been a subscriber since Lesson #39, and bought a few back lessons every month, so now I'm all caught up.
I'm glad I got in when I did, I look forward to their arrival every other Friday. Dave |

I've been a Tarbell subscriber since day one.
I haven't watched a minute of a single episode yet. But I will get to it one day. Hey, I'm a busy guy with a family, what can I say? (I won't even tell you how many lectures I've got back-logged.) Just curious how many others are in the same boat? |

I haven't watched them all, but I have watched most.
I've created a webpage for the series, listing timestamps (they usually include a pdf with timestamps, though they only started this recently). This is still a work in progress, so many lessons don't have timestamps yet. http://www.ai6k.com/tarbell Dave |

Definitely subscribe right away, as mentioned above it's one of the best deals going in magic. Even with an episode or two that focuses on tricks/illusions you have no interest in, Dan's presentation and thinking behind them is still very valuable in constructing your own and you're still ahead in terms of pricing. I'd suggest keeping an eye on the cool box or avalanche or whatever they're calling the deals section. Older Tarbell lessons pop up in there which is a great way to fill in some of the back-catalog of episodes you're missing. Easily one of the best investments I've made and I'm sure you'll agree too!

I am subscribed and I am really looking forward to the new videos.
I have not much time, but I try to watch a few minutes every day before going to bed. Also I check the blizzard deals regularly in hope for the episodes I am still missing. I had some luck but unfortunately am still missing a few and it's a shame penguin doesn't offer a special deal to subscribers who are willing to get the back issues.

Gee. Why doesn't someone who cares contact Penguin directly about these issues instead of speculating here? They're usually good on responding.

Oh I already asked a few times but only was answered that they do not plan to offer any additional deals or package deals (besides the coolbox blizzard).
Which is a shame because basically I don't want any special deal I just don't want to pay more for the already release episodes than I do for the new ones. I always guessed it is because of the special nature of the lecture series. There goes a lot of work into it and I really appreciate it. Maybe after all episodes have been released we could figure a way out to let the subscription go on till everybody got the ones they still miss. It's just a shame because there is so many cool basic stuff in the forst 20 episodes alone.

Of course they're going to say that they don't plan to - they want you to subscribe and buy the back-issues now, at a higher rate, if they can. There are definitely people who would wait if the knew.
However, I would be very surprised if they didn't offer some deal later on - even if it's a few years after the series is done. It's a way to bring more revenue from an endeavor that will otherwise be stagnating. It's really just a question of how long you're willing to wait to get them all. versus how much you're willing to spend... |

Not too late to subscribe.
I get to see the Tarbell Show live every week and for next to nothing you are getting VERY special. Harlan and our team put so much effort into what is easily the most ambitious magic instructional product that has ever existed.

I've been a subscriber for a while now. I just finished chapter 79 boy, what a lot of work Dan did on this one. About a half dozen boxes, for a change he did help constructing at least two of them, but the rest could have been built in his limited workshop, where his most sophisticated tool is a compound miter saw, using standard size lumber and plywood.
If you are a member of the S.A.M., you should check out Dan's lecture to Assembly V1.1, which includes a tour of his basement workshop. |
