What kind of method do you use in table hopping?

I used to work with the classical Kozlowski method brilliantly explained by M. Ammar in one of his "Classical Renditions" tape. I found it very comfortable to display the switched bill with the other in the TT. I tried yesterday a "method" from Jarle Leirpoll (see Pocket Power book) which doesn't need a TT. And now I prefer this one for table hopping because I don't need to carry a TT and the effect is the same and as clean for the spectators.

Thanks for your reply mon cher Totof, that's so funny you are from Belgium. You speak French and we speak together in English on an American magic forum...
By the way I know both of them but to go in the methods you use, do you try to borrow the bills or you put out yours and do the switch? |

Bonjour mon cher Arthur. Most of the time, I use the bill switch as an extra or a gag when receiving a tip (I use it also for the bill in lemon) or when a spectator asks to increase his money. I ALWAYS borrow the bill to be switched. It's much more powerful and brings money on the table, ready for the tip.

Hello Arthur, I am not a professional but recently ended up doing an impromptu bit in Japan where I ended up table hopping for this one effect only. Story going like I tried to change yen to dollars, bank closed but an innocent bystander showed me a new origami fold, bla bla bla...Anyhow I borrow a note and use the Kevin King "Money Morph" handling for the switch. This handling is really smooth. I had people all around, they never saw anything but the bill magically change...and my TT is pretty dirty.

I tried to find a demo of Money Morph on the web but with no success. May someone helps?
Thanks. |

I found a demo by Magicsmith after a lot of searching. Really nice presentation. Here's the link. Does anyone have any experience using Money Morph and the TT less bill switch (either Leirpoll's from Pocket Power or Paul Chousse's from the Ron Bauer series—I have both and they are similar and excellent). The effects look very similar as far as I can see (the money doesn't really seem to "morph" in the video, as quoted in the hype).
How practical is Money Morph with borrowed notes, I understand it uses a non-supplied (but apparently easily available?) gimmick. Is this gimmick generic for all bills or do you need a different one for each combination? Cheers Shanester |

I have some small experience with this switch - what is it that you want to know?

Hi folks
Thanks for your replies. Here is my bill switch, I came up with this method using nothing except the bill you borrow, I mean no gimmick or gaffed bills. You can check out the video here. You need to log in. Hope you enjoy. |

Arthur, I watched this video about a month ago or so, and I must say, it looks very good!
Great job (again... )! Greetings, Marco. |

The explanation is available in DVD+booklet here. I find the demo very good but doesn't have a review on the DVD because I didn't buy it.
Thanks shanester for the link to the demo. From the demo, I personally don't see a big difference between Money Morph and the Kozlowski's original version. Nevertheless I like the way Kevin King shows his hands empty. |

Tivoli, I have never used a TT in a bill switch routine. I learned from the original Mike Kozlowski method. As a reminder Kozolowski tells us (in the last pages of his manuscript) to learn the technique than do away with the TT. Well, I had never seen anyone perform this trick and was isolated away from other magicians, so followed Mr. Kozolowski’s advice!
Frankly I have never understood why anyone would use a TT for this trick. I use the Harry Anderson idea of tearing a bill up and restoring it miss-made (I make my own miss-made bills with torn rather than cut edges). I then do one of two things, the first is to restore it to the original restored form, or the second is to leave it with the spectator (expensive but worth it from time to time).

There is a very good reason to use a TT when you fold up the bill that small.
Then again... it too is NOT in the manuscript. And remains secret.

Mr. Chosse,
thanks for getting involved. I love the RB booklet on your switch and find it very practical. What I wanted to know is how it compares with Money Morph, as I'm not sure I can see a benefit of the latter (which uses a gimmick) and yours which doesn't. On the subject of your switch, do you do it with borrowed bills? I have tried the folding it and making it into an "Australian" -up side down bill in order to get the prefolds in place. Do you use any other methods? Cheers Shanester |

I never used a TT and I will never use it for this trick.
Using my way I can borrow the bill, I can do the reverse if I want right after the first switch (that I do not), I'm resset autamaticly. I can use my method to switch a bill to a coin for exemple, or a fold chosen card or anything I want. |

Chaging a bill to something else than another bill is interresting. I got a little funny idea using this principle: You borrow a 20 € bill and tell the story of a who goes into a bar and begins a little chit chat with a girl. Of course he pays two drinks, so he's got only 10 € left (first switch).
The conversation become more intimate and they order for a glass they dring together, always going closer... So he has got only 5 € left (second switch). At the end they leave the bar, going to the guy's appartment. But as they are walking in the street, they see a pharmacy. They realise they miss something (last switch, to a condom). I guess it is a little bit silly, but it can certainly be quite funny, done at the right moment with the right persons.

Harry: Could you please describe how you make your own 'mis-made bills' a bit more as you mentioned above ?
Thank you. - Nicodemus

Frankly, I don't understand why people are discarding the TT in this matter! In a switch, I guess that the first thing people 'who want to understand the "how") are wondering about is "where did the previous bill go?". So, I f you cannot flash empty hands right away, it NOT GOOD (I think). More. If you plan to do a bill switch, you HAVE to prepare yourself. You MUST have a folded bill ready to load in your hand, somewhere available. So, why not in a TT??? I really think that the "no-gaff" argument is non relevant here, because there is a preparation here (even quick and easy.) If you carry the TT with the bill inside, it's easier. And the "empty hands" aspect is very valuable. Of course, if you are sitting at the table with friends, and someone ask you to do something, it could be good to know how to do it without the TT. Ask for a bill, pretend to look for one yourself, and steal one in your pocket... (kind of rescue solution...) Jonathan. |

I've never done bill switches... ever. I've been thinking about incorporating one into my stuff, and have been patiently reading reviews and posts, etc., gettign a feel for what the majority feels is the best method / gimmick. Would someone please pm me and tell me what a TT is... Sad as it may seem, it's an abreviation that's absolutely not registering with me.
Mike Forget it... my brain just snapped into gear... I got the abreviation now. Wow... some days, lord help me, I'm just not that bright. Mike |

Mike, have a look into the Ron Bauer series manuscript. It has a useful routine or three and plenty of help on the basic switch.
As it happens, I like the TT approach for only ONE reason, and that ONLY for the times it makes sense to fold things down that small.
