I found an old set of instructions for "The Floating Penny" from Kanter's Magic Shop in Philadelphia.
It references a hollow penny (which has long since disappeared). Do you think they're talking about a penny shell, or something different where the penny has actually somehow been hollowed out? |

I donno for certain, but I am aware of other IT coin effects which required similar [. But, given the current state of IT, there should be little need for a [ penny. Steve Fearson offers multiple different tensile strength IT which could easily affect a penny and beyond...who floats a penny anyway? High roller:-P

Ha! No, I should have been more specific. This isn't an IT trick. It's a trick where you make the penny float on the surface of a glass of water.

It is almost surely talking about a penny which is hollowed out with a special something (chemical) so it weighs almost nothing.
I have read about this before but I can't quote the source now. |

Hydrochloric acid (HCI) will dissolve the zinc core of a penny. You just need to nick the copper plating off the coin at one location for the HCI to go in. It results in a delicate hollow copper coin like you describe. Never tried it but it looks like fun.

Yes scott that is what I was referring to .
you could say, just drill it at one location on one side. but beware, Hyd. acid is very dangerous and its fumes are as well. |
