I recently found out that he is still with us.. I think it's fair to say that his work in our dark little pool has
left its mark on many who have dwelt here, past & Present.
I was wondering if there was a way to re-introduce his work to some of us newer brethren.
- "Have Seance, will Travel"
- "Ritual of the Rock" (I've been looking for this one as well)

Thoughts ?

I looked into the idea of perhaps trying to republish HSWT but from what I have heard the family isn't much interested in magic.

The best way might be to reference the periodicals in which Shadow was published.

There is a Facebook page, but it hasn't seen much action in awhile.

Everyone talks about HSWT but "Some Shadowy Paths and By Ways" is great.

I tried to buy the rights from Carl about a decade ago for HSWT and a few other items, there was never a reply, Dean from Leaping Lizards tried after me, and a few years later Walt also tried, none of us had any luck. Last year on the FB page (August 2016), it was announced by his grand son Daniel that these items would be back in print soon, there has been no work on them since.

Over the past month or so, I have posted photos of some of Brother Shadow's items that I own, Witches Casting Stones, Scoring with the Zodiac, The Cards of Bilitis, The Empress, and Pick a Sin, Any Sin. What makes much of his work valuable and collectable is the hand made props he made. The Casting Stones and The Cards of Bilitis can be found in Magick under Richard Webster's contributions. Carl liked the ideas so much, he (with permission) built the props and sold compiled the routines and stories and sold them. The cards and stones were hand drawn, painted, and hand waxed. There are other Brother Shadow effects in The Alter Flame (which I believe is still available from Mary).

His "The Silver Key" (which I own) is a beautiful piece of art.

I created the Facebook page as a sort of honor to Carl as there wasn't much out there to let those either new to the art of maybe just never got the chance to meet him, I posted pics of things I owned and pics I had of him and my hope was for others to keep the flame burning (I did a similar one for Ed Solomon )
I just wanted to leave some sort of digital footprint so neither was forgotten

I was lucky enough to meet Brother Shadow and see him perform along with Eugene Burger at the 1999 Blackpool Convocation (still got the badge).

Where does the time go..?

Brother Shadow is still with us and living with family in Florida. He is not in very good shape mentally and has no recollection of the past. Their are some that are working behind the scenes to reissue his material, but there is very little progress to report. I got all of this info second hand and this is all I know.

As editor of the Heritage column for Psycrets, I often come across articles that Brother Shadow wrote in the heyday of frontier bizarre. His work is unfailingly clever, wise, and significant. If any of you have not yet tracked down his work, it is worth the doing, particularly his widely scattered articles.

If anyone does have a contact address for Brother Shadow's family or intellectual executors, I would be most happy to offer my services in collecting and helping them to republish some of his work. Send me a PM with any contact information that you might have or know of, please.

Brother Shadow died on February 17, 2019.

He created his own veils, and has now moved on.

What an incredible loss. His works were some of the first that led me down this dark path so many years ago.

May you never be forgotten, Brother Shadow.

Brother Shadows contributions to our little enclave are immense and he was right there in the first heyday.
Long may his memory be celebrated and may he Rest In Peace - until contacted.

If any of the more wizened mages here have some memories it would be wonderful to read - is there another area where we can pay respects?

As I mentioned above I created a Facebook page in memory of Brother Shadow (it was a tribute page but since his passing has been converted to in memory of)

Does anyone know if there has been any progress on compiling or reprinting any of Brother Shadows work? I've heard nothing but good things about his work and I'd love to be able to read some of it. If all the reviews and suggestions are to be believed, Have Seance Will Travel,is something that every aspiring seance worker should read.

Seems a shame that an artist's work shouldn't survive their death.

His work is out there and available. You just have to step up and pay for it.
