This is probably the most impressive coin magic trailer I've seen since SICK. Really looking forward to getting my hands on this.
http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S22514 $34.95 Tomoya Horiki's cutting-edge coin slide and coin routine! It is a collection of moves that do not use gimmicks or extra coins. The effect looks impossible, yet is simple to follow. Techniques are used to eliminate noise and complexity in order to increase the purity of the effect. The method is thoroughly minimized and the magic occurs with the minimum number of steps. Therefore, the effects stand out sharply. The method is creative, utilizing several innovative concepts. The difficulty level varies, with many parts requiring a bit of practice. The results, however, are quite rewarding. Sprout is full of fun elements. Please enjoy. 9 ROUTINES 3 Coins Across Plus Three coins move one by one from the left hand to the right hand, yet amazingly, they all are found to have returned to the left hand. Next, these three coins immediately move from the left hand to the right hand all at once. Pseudo Raven The Raven phenomenon reproduced with a slide. Just by holding your hand, the coin disappears. It is vivid, including the disappearance as well as the subsequent changes and appearance. Invisible Hanger A hanging coin routine with disappearance. Streamline Production After one coin disappears from under a card, four coins are arranged with a stretch of the arm. Quick Matrix 1 Matrix gathered at once. Place one of four cards on each coin at a fairly equivalent distance - magically, they are all gathered under one card. Reverse Matrix Reverse assembly from the state where four coins begin gathered in one place. Amazing plots are achieved with a light touch. Quick Matrix 2 Two-card version of Matrix, with cards gathered at once. Since it is obvious that you have not gathered them until just before that precise moment, it is an extremely strong reaction once they are magically gathered. Kick Back Assembly Impossible things happen, starting with four coins gathered under one card. The subsequent assembly is miraculous. Another CCC Routine Incredible effects using coins and a ribbon or cord. Coins are magically pulled off of the ribbon in impossible and mind-boggling ways, as well as suddenly appearing on it. Looks impossible! 4 SLEIGHTS Finger Palm Position Pass A technique to skip one or more coins from the finger palm position. This natural position allows for a natural movement pass. If you master it, this will be a lifetime weapon. Vertical Thumb Palm Muscle Pass Muscle pass from Vertical Sam Palm (Angle Palm). It flies in an easy-to-use direction, so it's easy to put in the procedure. Auto Vanish The coin you have on your fingertips will disappear instantly. This is quite visual, as if you were using a reel. False Sound Move This is a technique to create the illusion of a coin being present, using sound. |

Thanks for the link, I'm even more excited for Sprout after watching that! That was truly an amazing performance. Very inspiring. I just ordered Sprout and should have it by friday. I'll share some of my thoughts after I watch it.
I clicked on the link in the video's description and it looks like 'Coinlang' is Tomoya's lecture notes. Far as I can tell, the link provided in the video's description is the only place you can get it. The page is in japanese, but my browser translated it. 'Coinlang' appears to have been released after 'Sprout', and it's saying 'coinlang' is new material but I wouldn't be surprised if a few techniques are repeated. Here is what I managed to translate: Tomoya Horiki who announced innovative coin technique with DVD "Sprout". It is remembered that it became a subject of much wonder and difficulty. In this note, I will show you another new coin magic. There is no incompatibility with the recording works of DVD. This procedure is also no extra no gimmick. Yet it is strange, visual, high skill is required. The noteworthy part of this note will be part of the theory. In the DVD "Sprout", there was silent explanation, but in this case the process and the consideration until the completion of the procedure are packed. In particular, the first "Air Coin" theory is a must. Mr. Mr.'s long-standing research results on how to convince the coin's bunnish are fully explained. This raises the persuasive power of coin magic. Even with this consideration it is content that you can think that it was good to buy. It is a little hard to get a coin box (which is also regular), but otherwise all can be played with regular coins and cards. Please enjoy advanced coin magic with maniac! |

Ahh, this is the same video as the one announcing Sprout here:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=3 I, too, would be interested in seeing a review of both (or either?) set of material. I'd also consider the lecture notes, but the other thread suggests they're only in Japanese. Are there any plans to translate them to English? |

I certainly appreciate the skill in the videos here but none of the routines feel magical to me since the feeling of magic is constantly taken away by the clear manipulation and moving the coins from position to other. "Empty hands" being cramped and in weird positions without reason. Want to see ungaffed coin stuff done amazingly well, check out everything by Miguel Angel Gea. He does his stuff live as well and not just webcam as sadly some of these current asian "coin gods" 😉

Yes me too, I have been having a lot of fun practicing these moves lately as well.
I'm starting to get more and more consistent with the Vertical Thumb Palm Muscle Pass productions too. It makes your thumb a bit sore after practicing for a while but when you nail it, wow, what a beautiful and satisfying production. Sorry btw for anyone waiting on a review for this, I just got it this past Friday. I've watched the whole dvd and have been practicing the moves and routines over these past few days as time permits. Just been a bit busy. I will share some of my thoughts in detail tonight after work. |

Sweet. I I liked the look of that from the lecture notes video, but wasn't sure if it was included in Sprout. I'll have to add this to my next order.
Now that it's been a few more days, any further reviews? |

Sorry I've been meaning to share my thoughts on this for a few days, I've just been a bit busy and haven't gotten around to it.
First I want to start off by saying that in my opinion, this is a fantastic dvd. It's very rare to find magic now a days that is innovative, deceptive and useful, and Sprout is just that. DIFFICULTY: So before I get into anything else, I just wanted to mention that the material here is not going to be easy. I would not recommend this to a beginner. If you are a beginner, I will just say that you will certainly have your work cut out for you. This material is recommended for intermediate to advanced level skills with coins. You should be comfortable with your palms, and be able to transfer coins from one palm to another. If you know or are comfortable with m****e p**m, it will certainly help as he uses something similar quite a bit. This stuff will take practice.. depending on your current skill level of course will determine how much practice you might need. Certain techniques/routines are easier than others, but don't be expecting to nail this stuff right away. Some might see this as a negative, as for me, I enjoy practicing. I believe in working for my magic. I realize other people may not feel the same way. But putting in the time and effort is the price to pay for magic like this. That being said, if your willing to put in the work, you'll be rewarded with some beautiful sleights and routines that you can proudly add to your repertoire. TEACHING: The production quality is clear HD and professionally done. It uses an interesting layout. The menu is divided into sleights and routines. Then performance and explanations. When you select one, the move/routine is continuously looped over. There are no spoken words or subtitles. Instead, the camera is zoomed in and shot at different angles. Certain parts are shown in super slow motion which what seems to be a phantom camera which I thought was nice. Personally, I had no trouble seeing exactly what was going on. Subtitles might have helped a bit, at least maybe to provide some elaboration as to what was happening. But I'm not sure it was necessary. The critical moments are the part shot in slow motion anyway. I had no complaints. OVERALL: Overall I'm very happy with this dvd. I like a challenge and enjoy practicing. I practice a lot of coin magic already, so learning this stuff wasn't too difficult for me. Certain things are a bit more knacky than others. But after a few days I was getting the hang of the moves and routines. After so much practice with coins, I was beginning to hit a plateau, but this dvd really helped me to advance my coin magic even further. Tomoya has really put out an incredible dvd, very inspiring, theres a lot of valuable material to learn from here. Without a doubt, this is my new favorite coin magic dvd. I'll review the routines soon, I just wanted to get all of this out of the way first. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask! -Jameson |

Thanks for the review Jameson! I am looking Forward to the review of the routines! In my opinion only routines that are either original or better than existing routines or more practical than existing routines have some value. I can imagine that there is some value in here but waiting for your review on that

So, I realize I misread something the first time. You said "Vertical Thumb Palm Muscle Pass", which also sounds interesting.
I'd originally been interested in the "standing coin" bits from coinlang. Do those make an appearance in Sprout? |

jamo425 Loyal user 298 Posts |
No problem Gregor, my pleasure. Just wanted to give this dvd the attention and respect I think it deserves.
I certainly think Tomoya's handling of these effects improve upon many other handlings on the same effect. In Tomoya's hands, these effects look great and he does everything so smoothly. Of course everyone's style will vary to some degree. So the value in these for me, are using his techniques and his way to accomplish certain things. For example, in coin magic their are many ways to do a click pass, or to steal a coin, to do a transfer ect. I feel that there is a lot of utility in learning his handling for doing these things. Even if you don't like the exact routine, there are many other ways you can apply his techniques. Personally, I loved the routines. But I still feel the most value is in utilizing his handlings for certain techniques. Far as the practicality of these effects go, its subjective.. I mean, for someone like Tomoya, with his skill level does everything here flawlessly and I'm sure could perform any of these in his sleep. But someone who maybe is not as experienced, may think this stuff is impossible and highly impractical. I myself am getting more consistent with this stuff by the day, so I can see a lot of this stuff being practical so long as you put in the time. But hey, to each his own. Long story short, yes I feel there is great value in this dvd. Tonsofquestions, no there are no standing coin bits in Sprout. However, he does use a couple techniques from Sprout during some the standing coin bits. So if you learn this dvd, then watch the standing coin routines again, you can probably figure it out. |

ROUTINES
3 COINS ACROSS This is actually one of the more difficult routines on here, at least if you want to do it exactly like Tomoya does it. Hard to say why without exposing.. but I'll just say if you want to do it like he does, we'll it won't be easy. Kind of goes back to what I said in my last post, but what I really like about this is the techniques used. Using his technique opens up new ways to do this routine which I otherwise would have never thought of. If I were to do what he's doing using a different method, I don't think it would like nearly as good. Plus the kicker with the 3 going at once at the end is simply beautiful. PSEUDO RAVEN This is a short routine using just a vanish and production. This was shown breifly in the trailer. I have to say, in real life, if you nail this, it looks amazing. One of those things that I can fool myself in the mirror with. It's easier than I thought but it still takes practice to make it look good. INVISIBLE HANGER A 4 coin hanging coins routine. I really like the way Tomoya constructed this routine. Very smart method and looks very fair. Not easy, but not that difficult either aside from the ending where you reproduce the 4 coins, although the most difficult part is optional. It'll add to the effect of you pull it off, but not entirely necessary. STREAMLINE PRODUCTION This was one of the things that sold me on this dvd. Beautiful, beautiful 4 coin production. Very visual and surprising production and not very tough to do. QUICK MATRIX 1 Very nice instant matrix. Everything looks very clean. Uses a method which I've never seen before, and again, a nice utility technique you can use for any other matrix effect. REVERSE MATRIX I think I actually liked the method more than the effect lol. Very clever method and you get a nice clean show of empty hands before the revelation. What's nice too is you can do this right after any matrix effect. If done together with the previous effect you have a nice instant 4 coin transposition and back again. QUICK MATRIX 2 I enjoyed this one more than the first matrix just because it uses two cards, and the transposition seems more impossible and surprising. Very nice. KICKBACK ASSEMBLY I loved this routine. The kicker is very visual and very startling. This actually made me laugh when I first saw it. It is rather difficult to pull off, but if you can, it looks amazing. I know the description on the ad copy doesn't describe this exactly, but I don't want to ruin the surprise, you'll have to see for yourself ANOTHER CCC ROUTINE Charming chinese challenge for those who don't know. I can't speak too much for the difficulty and whatnot as I only have 2 chinese coins and haven't learned any other CCC routines. I don't know how this stacks up to other CCC routines. But.. I will say that this looks incredible and makes me want to go and get a CCC set so I can do this routine. Perhaps the only drawback is that a table is required, you cant do it stand up. Otherwise, it great. Each penetration looks impossible and the last phase where all three come off at once is something you have to see to believe. SLEIGHTS FINGER PALM POSITION PASS Excellent utility move. The click pass using this technique is probably my favorite thing I've learned from this dvd. Very convincing. There's a bit of a knack, but fairly easy to do compared to everything else. He teaches a few variations of the click pass along with another application. Very useful technique. VERTICAL THUMB PALM MUSCLE PASS This one is a bit more knacky. It not too hard to make it work, it the productions that are knacky. Your hand may get a little sore after practicing for a bit but very satisfying once you nail it. I've gotten pretty consistent now with both hands. Much easier than the normal muscle pass. Anyway, once you get it down, it's really fun to use. Makes for some beautiful productions. AUTO VANISH I absolutely love this move! Beautiful beautiful instantaneous vanish. Not too hard to do either. The hard part is making it look as good as Tomoya does it. After some playing around, I managed to get a nice quick vanish. But still it'll take time to develop the speed and make it look as good as on the trailer. FALSE SOUND MOVE Very clever way of making it sound like coins are clinking together. The best thing about this is you can do this without much or any movement from the hand. I managed to pick this up quickly, but I can imagine others having trouble with this if your not already familiar with the position. That's it! Hope you guys enjoyed the review and have all of the info you need. I know it's a bit long, but I like to do reviews for dvds I really enjoy. With this being my new favorite coin magic dvd, I'm happy to take the time and do so. Hope to see more of Tomoya in the future! Any questions btw feel free to ask. |
