I always had a soft spot for the magic of Nick Trost. And it is astonishing to see how much unpublished Nick Trost tricks H&R Magic are publishing.
They have just released their sixth volume. Anyway - one of my favourite writers in magic is Steve Bryant who has an excellent monthly blog. He is also a big Nick Trost fan as well. Indeed - it was his writing that first got me interested in his work. Well - in his latest blog post - he has linked to all of his previous reviews covering the Trost books H&R are publishing. It is a very useful overview of his work: http://littleegyptmagic.com/magic_march2017.html Also - here are his (brief) thoughts on the superb L+L book compiling Nick Trost's magic that came out in the 90's. http://littleegyptmagic.com/nine97.htm |

The L+L 'Card Magic of Nick Trost' is a treasure trove of both tricks and sleights. Even some self-working gems like Double Discovery. It's one of my go-to books, always handy on the shelf. Lynn

I love the "Card Magic of Nick Trost" as well, and really enjoy doing a number of the tricks he describes. It's possibly one of my favourite magic books I own, and would love to read more of his work. I have a short list of books I'd like to get next month, and would like to include one or possibly two of his other six volumes.
Eventually I'd like to get them all, but is there a volume that particularly stands out? Any certain tricks that really appeal to those who have read them? It is of course a very subjective question, but would love to hear some opinions. The link above gave some nice information, and at the moment I'm thinking of volume 2 and maybe 6. They all sound so good. Getting new books is pretty exciting, and am really looking foreward to learn some more of his card magic. |

I absolutely love Nick Trost. The Card Magic of Nick Trost is probably my all time favorite book. I bought it when it was out of print many years ago and spend like $150 on it. However, I don't actually use any of the routines from it. I have used some, but they aren't part of my regular repertoire of. It is the genius behind the tricks that I love so much. It is honestly just a pleasure to learn the thought behind such ingenious methods.

I love the Card Magic of Nick Trost. I've used at least a dozen different things out of there, and agree that this one is a lot of fun to read even for the thinking alone. It's astonishing how much material has come out from Nick Trost. On the subject of the L&L ebooks, one thing I'd say is that while I do agree with you guys on the physical book being far more satisfying to own, when L&L puts these on sale a book like this can be had for under $10. That's amazing value for what you're getting. My first choice with any great book is to own it physically. But honestly when you think of how expensive magic books can get, and how fast they can wreck your budget, the L&L deals are hard to beat. If you're interested in the e-format, check at LLepub starting around black friday, as that's when the great deals show up.
On a related note, for anyone who is interested in seeing some of the material, there is a Café member who has a site called 'magicbookreport'. He's done some excellent demos of the material, and a nice review also. If you're not sold on Trost yet, you should check this site out and see what you think. |

On the subject of Trost books in general, does anyone have any experience with the other books, aside form the "card magic of Nick Trost"? That one seems to be kind of a default book with him, but I'm curious if anyone owns the others and can discuss a bit.
