Hmmm... I'm guilty of that. I was born a year after Hendrix died and in High School, I wore many Hendrix shirts.

System Of A Down rock!! I saw them at the Reading Festival. I liked Toxcitity but Don't Steal This Album was a bit of a let down. I didn't like that one. Suger is weird song but most of their stuff is cool. What do you think of Motorhead? I am going to see them in November - it should be great.
Does Anyone like Metallica? Down the road from my house about 10 mins away is where The Isle Of Wight Rock Festival is held. They have some pretty good bands. So far, the best have been Robert Plant, The Who, David Bowie, Ash and Starsailor - they rocked. R.E.M should have been there this year, but they pulled out due to money and The Rolling Stones were due, but Mick got sick but it is still great a great concert - Robert Plant Rocked. Hey I'm guilty too! I own 6 different Hendrix shirts. Firedice, what was your band called? What do you people think of INXS? I really like them I saw them a handfull of times when they were playing nearby My cousin is there drummer he used to get us in free!!! The band as people were way cool. So Firedice how did you go from being in a band to being a Magician? Luke

I don't mind the Hendrix thing...it is just the Nirvana shirts that bug me.
I think it is because people just do it for style and for shock value.

Luke I've owned all 3 albums by Green River (Green River, Rehad Doll and I can't remember the last one) and currently have a Green River/ Stone Gossard demo CD from Ally Kat Records (I tried Google searching info for Ally Kat and came up with a Rap lable).
Green River's sound was the same as Mud's during their Sub Pop day's (loud and noisy) they refinded their sound when they moved to Reprise. Mark Arm fronted Green River with Stone/Jeff Ament and the MudHoney drummer (can't remember the name) at the time Andrew Wood was performing as Landew with the group Malfunkshun (I have that CD as well) it also featured Kevin Wood and now Brad drummer Ragan Haggar. The demo disk is kind of bad (rough sounding) except the Gossard Demos (guitar only) which has Ballad E (Pearl Jam's Animal) as well as demos for Peal Jam's Black and Even Flow If Interested in either CD please PM me as I don't listen to either Malfunkshun or Green River anymore. I left the Sub Pop Genre 10 years ago for Tooth and Nail Records (MxPx, POD, Blindside etc.) and am still an advid lister of most of T&N's groups. Shawn

Metallica hasn't written a decent song since the Black Album. And with Lars whining about Napster, I just got turned off from them for good.
INXS is still around, despite the dead singer? My old band was called Clayface. We sounded like a heavier version of Korn. Before Korn came out. So if we would have stuck it out, maybe we would be famous now! LOL! I left music to draw comic books. I left comic books to do graphic design. I still do graphic design, but magic is my hobby... which is turning into an obsession! X-treem mentioned POD. Now, those cats rock! Astinus, I see the difference. Hendrix is a legend who changed music as we knew it. Kurt is just a brand name, a logo. |

I just caught some more of your questions Luke.
I had a Tad CD they were your standard fair grunge sound, who's only claim to fame was opening for Nirvana in the earily years. Lables were pushing to flood the market with MOR grunge and we got to listen to junk bands like Dandilions and Cell. Two good Sub Pop groups from that time were Cat Butt Scratch and Green Apple Quick Step. They also released a spoken word CD by a famous underground poet that was REALLY good. I've also always had a love for Sponge and their album Rotting Pinata and the last two albums from the band Therapy? (Nurse was Therapy?'s first album and was serious junk as well) Shawn POD did one EP with T&N just before they broke the mainstream market. I believe it was Called The Warrior EP and is what they used to sell themselves to their lable. Blindside did two album's before Sonny talked Elecktra into picking them up, Blindside had a minor hit last fall called Pitiful

Hi Firedice. Well Korn I have always thought are too soft so maybe if Clayface were still together they would have been more or less my ideal band. Korn rocks, but they are just not heavy enough in my mind.
No, INXS are no longer together, they just could not replace Micheal, but my cousin and their guitarist are both in the world;s leading INXS tribute Band called UNXS. Their lead singer looks nothing like Micheal, but sounds amazing. You used to draw comics? Cool! For whom? Luke

Nirvana (along with many early 90s bands) owed a great deal to the Pixies. The Pixies changed popular music; Nirvana was just popular (but, then again, so is Britney Spears). Nirvana was The Knack of its time. A lot of splash, but not very deep.
You also have to give credit to Hüsker Dü. That band was years ahead of everybody. If you saw them perform in 1984, you know what I'm talking about.

He WAS a musician. Singer-songwriter for a group called Nirvana. There is an 'Unplugged' music TV special that showcases their material.

I miss my family who have died.
I guess stories of IF people died from a secret murders etc intrigue me, but like I said--family rules over dead strangers. Especially ones involved in drugs. Ellen |

The biggest irony in Cobain's death was that people who never listened to them were sudden followers. The same goes for INXS.
Both bands were good but it is dificult to really say that someone changed the direction of music. Hendrix unique guitar ability did but so did Eddie Van Halen and Stevie ray Vaughan. My favorite band from the 90's currently is Live but my opinions change continuously. The 80's Guns and Roses but Axl is a real *******. |

Also, with all due respect to Mr. Cobain, this thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning the huge influence to 90s rock made by Sonic Youth, Galaxie 500 and My Bloody Valentine.

Hiya Wolfgang,
Did My Bloody Valentine have that much of an influence in the 90's? The only reason I ask (I've never heard their music) is that a reviewer lazily likened the band Starflyer 59 to MBV which I guess created a huge surgance of people buying MBV album. Starflyer was very big in the underground scene and until that review came out MBV had very poor sales. This is just second hand knowledge and I was curious. X

And I and many people in the U.S. bought that album the week it came out. And I doubt there was a serious band at the time that wasn't aware of them. Starflyer 59 didn't come around until three years after My Bloody Valentine broke up and probably never would have existed without them. My Bloody Valentine redefined what noise meant within the context of popular music. And the results were stunning.
