The Greatest Music Teacher Who Ever Lived
“The Greatest Music Teacher Who Ever Lived”. This accolade belongs to Nadia Boulanger, whose students included (among many others) Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Quincy Jones, Keith Jarrett, and one of my favorite composers, Astor Piazzolla. I have a tiny bit of Ms. Boulanger’s piano technique and musical philosophy in me, which I gained as follows: One of Ms. Boulanger’s students was a gifted Romanian pianist named Dinu Lipatti (whose career was tragically cut short by his death from Hodgkins disease at age 33). But in the years before his death, Mr. Lipatti accepted a South African piano student named Alain Naudé. He later became a professional concert pianist. I was privileged to have Mr. Naudé as my private classical piano tutor for the first seven years of my music education. Quincy Jones said, ““Nadia Boulanger was the most astounding woman I ever met in my life.” For those of you who are interested, here is a great article about Ms. Boulanger from the BBC online: http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/2017030......er-lived |

Nice story.

The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats |

Wow, fascinating read. And the article was right, in my case - I hadn't heard of her (that I recall) before now.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
