Also keen to know what kind of G's are required and if it's standard type stuff (of which I have plenty) or worth investing in the full package due to the unique nature of them.

Paul's material is for the serious student and thinking professional. If you don't fall into either of those categories, this material isn't for you. That isn't meant as an insult to anyone and I'm making my statement based on his previous published works which I rate very highly. Asking what the effects are won't give you much information as I imagine most are pretty standard. It is the thought, construction, knowledge of theatre, attention to the most minute detail that elevate these effects into miracles. Sadly, it is those very details that mean little or nothing to most magicians, unless they fall into the above mentioned categories.

It looks like a lot of time & care was taken to procure/produce all of the gimmicks to include in the 'Keys of Deception' gimmick pack, but they are all things that you can acquire on your own or may even own most of them already. The Copper/Silver/Brass gimmick is nice and apparently made by Roy Keuppers. There is a gimmicked deck of cards, but it's not for a single trick. The deck contains gimmicks for use in many of the card effects in the book. Paul will be selling the deck on his website at some point, so you can grab all of the gimmicks in one shot. Hope that sheds a little light on it, ~Tony |

Hi y'all,
I wanted to leave a review for The Doors of Deception by Paul Vigil. I have been a fan and student of Paul's for nearly a decade now. Throughout this work my standards for our art have climbed. I remember first reading Diplopia and thinking, "this guy truly understands magic's power". Paul believes in his magic, and more importantly, Paul believes in the impact of his magic. With such high standards, I was curious how V's latest release would measure up. Amazingly, the bar has been raised yet again. If you want to elevate your magic, you NEED this book. I received my copy less than a week ago and I have re-read the text three times, each time with more vigor. I am planning on including 9 of the 11 effects into my repertoire, and have begun my work voraciously. The other two routines are already in my regular rotation and consistently "leave a mark". After reading this text they will be even better. If you know Paul, you know he's continually striving for improvement, to pull the maximum effect out of a routine. And he's gotten very good at it. There are classic effects in here that you'll see again through fresh eyes. It's like falling in love with magic for the first time all over again. Each of the routines in The Doors of Deception has several lessons to teach us. Each effect will slay your audiences, and it's easy to appreciate the structure of the deceptions. We learn about scripting, about pocket management, about building tension. We learn how to emphasize the unimportant, and downplay the necessary. We learn how to create buy-in in even the most skeptical of audiences, and we learn to believe in our performances. Yep, I drank the kool-aid. You should too. I could talk about each of the effects individually, but you should just take my word, and take the plunge. You won't regret it. |

I feel compelled to echo the accolades from Brandon's review above.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book and all I can say is, Wow! I can't wait to finish reading this book and finally try some of this stuff out in front of the mirror or video camera. It will probably be a while before I can show off some of these effects to the public or at my local magic club but then again, there are some items I can't wait to go out and try very soon. It's been a long time since a magic book has kept me so engaged. Great job, Paul! |

Performed 2 effects from 'Doors' at the local IBM Meeting yesterday: Wild Card and Fabric of Space & Time (the handkerchief trick)
Both got great reactions (from magicians even! Can you believe it?) <- tongue in cheek |

Quote: what kind of repertoire do you have? About 100 effects in your repertoire ??? It's not serious telling that you're planning of including 80% of the effects of a book in your repertoire!!!
