I'd like to share a Tinfoil Hat moment. In context: yesterday England's NHS and other places were hit with computer a ransomware problem. Part of that problem was stopped and some details are here: http://boingboing.net/2017/05/13/heroism......tti.html
There's been some mention of the recent trove of sneaky code that supposedly bad guys leaked from our good guys. Black Hats and White Hats. http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/14/technolo......brokers/ And there's much online discussion attempting to frame the dialog away from how such product code gets past testing and into consumer product. The grey hats don't want to get blamed. Some vulnerabilities in this part of windows were identified back in 2009, 2010: https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/......Id=19000 Quote:
Alternatively, the attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code. and https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/......Id=21016 Hats: https://www.cybrary.it/0p3n/types-of-hackers/ So let's talk about Tinfoil Hat perspective. A sudden large scale event that has folks updating their PCs on the internet - so much trust - so much data moving...What this event means for Windows trustworthy computing ... no idea. How many other such known and preserved design features in consumer code are there?

Yes, the NSA had long been warned by Edward Snowden (thank you for your service, Mr. Snowden) and others that what just happened to the British National Health Service would happen. But the NSA would rather allow serious exploitable flaws that exist in crucial life-or-death software to remain rather than give up their illegal warrantless criminal mass surveillance. The irony that the flaws in Britain's hospital system were exploited by the NSA's own malware is just one more horrific illustration of the blowback that inevitably happens under such a criminal mass surveillance regime.
Jon, I think it's safe to assume that it's already all been compromised. We're screwed. The cards have been controlled to the top of the deck. It's now just a matter of the performers deciding how to do the revelation for maximum effect.

And this for those who want to understand the deeper details of why such weapons cannot be held securely by any government agency:

Fun reading: http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-sta......tml#more
Look at the date in that bulletin from Cisco systems: https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/......Id=19000 Think of how many times windows updated since then? How many more have been written and installed since?
