Thanks Brad for those infos. There is some pleasure to play with principles or sleights, even if we know we will never do anything with it. And at times, playing with them leads us toward new things.

Well, I took a break - feel a bit better now, lol Smile

Loads of good advice and inspiration here - thanks Smile

I never really found a solution - I still find certain sleights too difficult for me even after years/hours of work - I'm not sure what to do about that.

For the moment, I'm just concentrating on seeing how much mileage I can get out of what I can already do, or from what is within reach for me. Fortunately, that is quite a lot because there's so much clever thinking in magic that great stuff can be done with minimal dexterity. And it's not like I can do no sleights at all, its just that I've drawn a total blank on a few moves that for now I'm just going to put to one side, or find work-arounds for.

I guess reaching limits, especially after a long, hard time of work, can be a bit of a blow psychologically - but oh, well - until I become omnipotent I guess I'll just have to live with it Smile

One of the things that I enjoy about magic is that there are many variations/ways to get to the same destination, so although I might not be able to do every technique in the book I have more than enough tools to get me by and I'm sure it's the same for many others Smile

An old thread, but maybe this will help someone: I've found it unpredictable which sleights come easy for me and which don't. For instance, I'm still working away at my full-deck DL, but my packet DL came in very quickly. Others tell me their experience was the opposite. So my suggestion is: Keep learning sleights, but also keep looking for tricks that use sleights that you already do consistently.

Bob as I mentioned earlier in this thread there are many tools available for example instead of a double with the full deck you could switch that for an add on move and get the same result, there is usually more than one way to get the same result.

Hi again, Warren. I tried to PM you but your inbox is full. Any chance you could clear at least one PM? I wanted to ask you how to substitute an add-on for a DL -- an idea that interests me!

Much appreciated,

Bob

Hi:
It sounds to me as if you have never been shown how to practice, I would suggest breaking the sleight down to its separate sections and practicing each separately, for example a push off second, just the push off very slowly and accurately, until you can do ten push offs in a row with accuracy, then you look at the second portion etc

Hi, James -- at least I think you were talking to me. I appreciate your thoughts. As it turns out, I practice that way all the time. At this point I'm interested in talking to Warren about what he does.
