Hello,
About 20 years ago my then teacher in magic taught me a trick where a "mystery card" is placed under a spec hand, a card is selected and signed, then, one by one, the four aces are produced and placed under the spec hand. When the "mystery card" is shown it's the (signed) selection. I'm looking for the source if this effect. I checked Roy Walton's Cased from The Devil's Playthings but it's not the same.

Sounds like Alex Elmsey's Between Your Palms. A great variation I use is by Jack Carpenter and is called Quantum Theory, this adds the element of Dr. Daley's Last Trick.

It isn't Between Your Palms.
Carpenter's trick, originally titled Mysterious from Minch's Modus Operandi is an very good variation on Jammans The Signed Card. The trick in the OP sounds very interesting. Can't quite put my finger on it. |

There are some, but only some, similarities to Darwin Ortiz's "The Psychotronic Card" in his book Cardsharks.

Psychotronic Card is great. John Bannon has a similar trick in Impossibilia.

I believe you're talking about Bro John Hamman's "The Signed Card". Great trick.

It's not the Signed Card, and in fact is more in line with Between Your Palms, based on the involvement of the extra cards.
While not identical to Walton's Card Case, it certainly sounds the mechanics could essentially be the same. |

I use Mr E takes a stroll by John Guastaferro which is the same sort of concept.

Paul Gordon's "Psychotronic Rides Again" is close. It was in one of his publications around the year 2000, and is also in his book Golddust.

After reading this thread and mentioning that I liked performing Mr E takes a stroll I got playing with it and altered the handling just a little and tried it out at work today.
As the saying goes it absolutely kills, I performed it for my assistant manager on the morning before going out on deliveries, when I got back he demanded that I perform it again for some of the other office workers as he had been telling them about it all day and it was really bugging him how the mystery card turned out to be his chosen card ( his exact words were it's a complete mind !@#$ ) needless to say it floored again and only left him even more dumb struck the second time around
Excellent effect !! |

I think Rupert is correct in that the original description is very much like Between Your Palms except using four cards and the mystery card instead of two and the mystery card.
Mr E Takes a Stroll is sort of Dr. Daley's Last Trick meets Between Your Palms/The Signed Card. Both Between Your Palms and The Signed Card generate the same basic effect viz. the card set aside at the outset is the one you signed later on. Great plot!! Mike

I’ve seen “Mr E Takes a Stroll” mentioned by numerous people as a trick they like. I don’t know anything about it, other than it is from John Guastaferro’s first degree book.
What is the level of difficulty? Would I need to p***m or do any d***l* l***s? |

Somehow this thread brought out the card geniuses almost at once. Cheers!

I don't have an answer, but I want to make sure I understand the effect. The Mystery Card has been under the spec's hand the whole time, and only later does he choose a card and sign it -- yet yet the mystery card, which was put under spec's hand *before* spec chose a card turns out to be the selection?! That's amazing!
t's a time travel effect if I have this right, and a very strong one. In case it helps the OP, Jon Racherbaumer has a whole ebook, available from Lybrary.com, that describes time travel tricks. |

The Bannon's effect Heart of City (smoke and Mirror) is with four cards and the mystery card is the signed selection of espectator. Use Discrepancy city Display tecnique.

I was out drinking with a couple of magician friends lastnight and as always we ended up performing close up for some of the customers. As a result of this old thread coming back up I ended up performing Mr E Takes A Stroll again and as usual it went down a storm, I had forgotten what great reactions this gets
