Thank you. I like it to be the end of a routine something like Gerrett Thomas imagination coins. However, the routine I perform is strong by itself and I fear Leap can weaken what I did before. Some thoughts on this?

Finally I got Leap. My thougts on this piece of magic: It's crap! The "door" is held by 2 little pieces of adhesive which will break soon after you play around a little with the gimmick. After using the gimmick a while the door will look like crap and you can't use it close up anymore until you rebuild it. When you are in Europe most Euro coins a way too heavy. The gimmick will work with every coin but you clearly see the coin shoots out of the box. The gets better when using light cents but noone wants to perform with such small coins. When the gimmick is loaded you have to handle the gimmick very very very careful otherwise the coin will make noise like hell. For me it is a waste of money.

Hey Frittentick (that sounds like the title of a German adult movie ), if you want to carry this around a card guard is your friend. But yes, it IS extremely fragile & flimsy. I personally haven't had any problems with using 1 or 2 Euro coins. Maybe you should tighten the spring? it's adjustable I think. Having said all this: you're right, it's not practical. I sometimes use it in parlour settings, as a one-off. But for walkaround it's horrible. Shame, really. "Cause it looks freakin' great.

When I tight the spring I fear the coin will smash the glass. But since you use it, do you need a backup? Mine is for sale
But most annoying is the fact that in the Café are nearly no negative reviews. |

I use an IKEA glass (0,5 l) to cover the small one. They are very cheap and very strong, I never worried about the glass breaking. About negative reviews: that is a HUGE problem I feel as well. There's a big mutual admiration circle here, patting each other on the back. Best is to PM people, they're al lot more honest then. It's harder to lie one on one Thanks for offering a spare... but no, thanks

Is this fairly reliable and durable assuming you take care of it?

I purchased Leap back in mid 2018. I think that with any reasonable care the gimmick should last a long time. It IS expected that with this type of mechanical action, the card box WILL wear out over time. To expect anything less is unreasonable. Doesn't take an engineer to fix up a new card box for the gimmick....
What bothered me the most were the relatively low odds of the ring/coin falling into the shot glass. If I remember correctly the instructional video might mention the best types of glasses with which to cover the shot glass. With regards to concerns of the spec seeing the item exit the gimmick, a simple solution is turning the entire set up so that the flap is towards you vice to the side. Telling the spec to "focus on the shot glass", he/she doesn't know WHAT to expect at that moment so I can't imagine them immediately looking for the flap. With some additional sleight of hand and audience management, stuff beyond my novice capabilities, there ARE ways to GENUINELY make a borrowed ring/signed coin appear in that shot glass with NO switching. That extra "work" could elevate this effect from "that was really cool" to something truly breathtaking that defies physics/logic...... I don't perform close-up magic anymore, but I always thought the concept itself was very clever and well thought-out. |
