Has anyone ever tried recording what tricks they do for people, how many they performed for, and how it went?

Did the information reveal anything useful, like which tricks you usually ended up doing, or that some tricks got better reactions than you thought?

Did it encourage you to perform more, or was it a hassle keeping track?

Did you find out that you performed more or less mahic than you thought, or that certain times/places were best for you?

I'm asking because I just thought of the idea, and guessing people must have tried this before, wondered if it's useful or just a waste of time? Smile

Not a "diary" per say, but I have an "inventory" ... a list of each and every trick I am capable of performing for people.

Not tricks I am working on, or tricks I want to do, or tricks I bought and need to practice ... but a list of each and every trick I am capable of performing before people.

It is pretty handy resource to have, I recommend it.

I have a list of the tricks that are performance ready, and a list of tricks I would like to learn. I also reference where I learned it so I can go back easily if I need to.

I keep a magic notebook. It contains my tricks that are performance ready with scripts, etc. Tricks that are ready, but need scripts and presentations. Lists of books, DVD's and such with tricks I may want to learn from each. A section for complete shows, standup, close up, etc. Each performance I do (as in real shows) gets a sheet with what I performed and a comments section where I can record unexpected results or reactions or unexpected comments that may make their way into the script. It also helps when I'm asked for a repeat show to know what I did and what worked best.

I don't remember where I got this, but it's not original with me. A magic notebook is a wonderful tool!

I don't do this myself but I think that doing it is not a waste of time. By doing that you can treasure your experiences.
I have a whiteboard with all the effects that I am capable of performing for strangers. This really helps in organizing and structuring new routines.

I did that for a very brief period when I first started. I did not find it terribly useful to me. My assumption would be because I do the same show for about two years. It's not hard for me to remember what I performed and how people reacted to specific bits, because I perform the same thing at all my shows. If something funny or interesting comes up, I try to recreate it the next performance or two and see how it works out, and if I like it, it becomes a permanent change. By doing this I am able to hone the show to be better and better.

Hello, related to this, anyone used a diary not to track performance events, but training/skill progress? I am starting on the magician world, and as a true beginner any guidance is more than welcome
Can you keep a secret?.....So can I ;o)
