I snagged the second to last single deck this morning. I watched the videos and I think I'm going to like these a lot. The markings are ridiculously easy. That might turn some of you off, but for me it's perfect.

They have removed the back picture from the Penguin site. Does anyone have the picture. I want to show a friend before ordering.

I'll be getting a brick delivered this week.
I am a long time user of marked decks...used to spend hours marking my own decks. It was taboo to use a marked deck based on the opinions of the magicians I used to hang out with 25 plus years ago. They felt it was the deck doing all the magic...magicians should use pure sleight of hand when doing card magic...gaffs were for beginners. I owned a very nice marked deck at the time which was not printed on standard Bicycle Rider backs...everyone said that audiences would be suspicious if the deck was anything but a Bike back. These guys had a lot of opinions but NEVER performed for laymen. I used the non-traditional backed deck (marked) at my restaurant for over hundreds of customers. Funny...not one ever questioned the deck as being "gimmicked" simply because it wasn't a standard Bicycle. I also fooled the heck out of many of those opinionated magicians using a self marked Bicycle...sometimes the boys are the easiest to fool. They talk a good game of magic, but have no clue as to how to perform the effects they discuss or recognize the moves they speak so eloquently about at the magic club meetings. |

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death my right to say "scr*w you" if you persist. [Voltaire ]

If you zoom in on the picture of the deck about to be riffle-shuffled you can still see some of the markings, especially on the right hand (as we look at it) packet.

First of all, I could care less about the back designs, and laymen don't seem to care about that, either, when I perform for them. The idea that they will only accept Bicycles and will be suspicious of other decks is simply marketing hype. Any of us should have a miracle or two that could be performed with a deck purchased by the spectator at the dollar store.
These decks are - for my failing eyesight - a joy to read and they're inexpensive. I don't make an absolute habit of using marked cards, although I went through a phase some 15 years ago when I would work only with a Ted Lesley deck -and even then might not use the markings at all om a given set. However, they do give you an extra "out" when the effect you wanted to produce failed. As amateurs, we do go through phases - stripper decks, breather crimps in every deck, lots of gaffs, etc. And, if affordability was not an issue, I agree that the Phoenix decks are such a joy to handle (and faro) that I really wouldn't want to use any others. But for general purposes, these decks suit me just fine and a brick will last me a good long while. |

Just opened my first deck. I'm a cheap Cosco guy who tries to buy my decks as inexpensivly as possible. The trouble is the quality of the cards have gone down tremendously. These are perfect. Right out of the box they fan and faro perfectly. The borders are all equally spaced and the edges are cut smoothly and accurately. I haven't yet played around with marks which I don't believe anyone will notice but even without them the cards are well worth the price compared to the quality I've been getting. I highly recommend these cards to anyone looking for high quality cards with benefits LOL.

I also opened my first deck of these yesterday. They do fan well, but not great for faros as the edges are kind of rough. I thought that I read they were cut traditionally, maybe I'm mistaken, but this deck isn't. Overall, no complaints at this price but they are the typical quality that is coming out of standard Bicycle decks currently.
Again, for the price they can't be beat and I will be using them. Robert |

Robert you may have a different batch than I do. The edges are very smooth and even. They faro'd perfectly right out of the box unlike my usual Bilkes. These don't need any breaking in.

Just opened mine. Grabbed em just to test them out. They feel a lot thinner than most cards, which isn't a bad thing. The box was rather flimsy though, which did bug me. Testing them out tonight to see how they go. The download from Jon Armstrong that came with the deck was amazing

I would guess that the quality is all over the board. The US Playing Card Co will use their blades much longer than they should before sharpening. The early decks in the run will be much a much smoother cut than the later decks as the blades get duller. Again, typical bicycle quality.

My deck had rough edges also. Otherwise typical quality for this price deck.
I made my purchase with Vanishing Inc. I got the black box. |
